Has anyone ever regretted getting a cat?

Really interesting reading in the dog thread. I was expecting prevalent "no".

Is there the sane sentiment for cats? Or are they easier to fit to your life?

Oh, all the time. Pain in the bloody arse. Miaowing for food, hunting mice, winding round your ankles in the middle of the night, trying to suckle and getting your clothes covered in cat drool, moulting, fleas, food costs, vet costs, crapping behind the TV, vomiting on the rug.

Somehow, though, I still love them Grin

I have three cats and, although they drive me nuts at times, I don't regret them at all. For the most part, it's a joy to have them in my life. Cats do have some annoying habits though (hairballs, knocking stuff over etc) but I'd say it's worth it.

No, but we have family and neighbours who are happy to come in and house sit or feed and keep him company if we are away.

When he dies, I'm not sure I'd rush to get another one. There's a lot of fur, they are expensive, he's forever fighting. If one happened to come into my life then yes. Maybe when I'm retired I'll get an older rescue cat.

I remember googling the same thing the night before collecting our first cat. I didn’t regret him one bit (he was sadly hit by a car a few years ago) we now have another rescue cat and love her to bits despite her mauling the furniture occasionally.

I have had a multiple cat household for about 35 years. I can't really imagine living without them. Have I ever regretted any of them? No.

We have two cats that are nearly a year old. One of them has, in her short life, been stung in the mouth by a bee, gone missing for 3 days and has now broken her leg and is on cage rest for 6 weeks! Saying that, she is lovely when she wants to be but scatty the rest of the time. I don't regret them as my kids love them anf they are low maintenance (when not breaking limbs) but I didn't appreciate the cost of vet bills and I am pretty annoyed that the male has scratched my leather bar stools and new bed to pieces Angry. Probably wouldn't get more after these but hopefully they'll be around for a long time yet!
