SOOO ANGRY !!!!

Hi all,

So in April I found some beautiful main coon kittens online. I got the first pick of the lot as I was first to view. 5 girls 2 boys. I went there with intentions of choosing a girl but when I got there and seen the dad I was swayed to go for the biggest boy. I chose him and then went a month later just to see how he was. I am supposed to be getting him in three weeks and just got a message saying he has turned out to be a girl!!!!! And the other boy a girl !!!

This is an experienced breeder with show cats from all over the world that are registered!!! How can you get it so wrong !!!

What I’m most confused about is when we first went we were looking at all of the sexes and he was picking them up like girl, girl, yep his definitely a boy !!!

I’m heart broken !! Do u believe this or do you think he has sold him behind my back.

He’s said so you still want “her”

What shall I do :(

Disappointed .... yes. 'So angry' ...... no, for what is a common occurrence when sexing very small kittens. If you knew much about cats you'd already know this.

I agree Maine Coons are magnificent, and the males usually more so due to their size but if you were considering a girl in the first place anyway I'm not altogether sure why this is the disaster you've made it into? She would still almost certainly be a very striking cat. In any case, if it's so awful, I presume you're under no obligation to complete the purchase. Obviously you should want any animal 110% and if your heart's not in it it'd be fairer to let her go to another home.

Of course, it's entirely possible to find large, non pedigree cats amongst the many languishing in cat shelters. I had a very large cat, with very long fur and a 'mane' who came from one, and was regularly asked if he had a pedigree. No, he didn't but he was a beautiful animal nonetheless and a fantastic character. I'm afraid you come across less about wanting to have a pet and more about wanting a status symbol, or being 'cheated' out of one. Which a female Maine Coon would still be if that was your motivation ......

I got 2 kittens. I was told one was a boy, the other a girl. Brother and sister. I asked for early spaying/neutering, so they could not mate.

Vet told me i in fact had 2 boys! They were 5 months old at the point.

‘Fifi’ Didn’t care about being named Fifi, or the pink collar or bed! Confused he remained Fifi!

EjectorCrab · 16/05/2019 14:39

Anyone else have to google Maine coon cat and then think it just looks like a normal cat.
(Clearly missing the point of the thread).
I know someone who had a female cat called Dave. And a cat won’t care about a blue bed.

dreichuplands · 16/05/2019 14:42

Cats want to sleep on your best cashmere jumper or woolen sofa throw. Not the carefully purchased basket.

Claw01 · 16/05/2019 14:53

Yes I had to google! Looks like a ‘cheap Tom cat’ to me Grin just bigger and more expensive!

Expressedways · 16/05/2019 16:07

Are you sure you’re ready for a cat? You really don’t sound like you like them all that much or really know anything about cats. The chances of it sleeping in the personalised bed are slim to none and it won’t be because it’s embarrassed because it’s blue- cats are colour blind and tend to prefer your favourite jumper.

BollocksToBrexit · 16/05/2019 16:12

You bought a personalised cat bed? Sorry but they saw you coming.

I've had numerous cats all my life and the one thing I've learnt is that cats NEVER sleep in their own beds. Ever. One of mine is currently asleep on a bathmat in the shower and the other one is asleep under a shrub in the garden.

TooTrueToBeGood · 16/05/2019 16:15

Maybe she will self-ID as a boy and it will all work out fine, blue basket and all.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/05/2019 16:17

One of mine sleeps on my feet every night, she doesn't seem to care what colour they are Grin
I have a half Maine Coon, with all the traits of one, he's my only boy and I only wanted girls.
He's the soppiest, stupidest, biggest baby ever, and everyone loves him the most at first, until they find out, and in fact have to notice the boring looking wee plain black one is the most affectionate and the funniest.

greathat · 16/05/2019 16:19

Lmao the cat won't care what colour it's bed is or whether it has a name for the wrong sex.... just carry on regardless.

GarnierBBCream · 16/05/2019 16:19

Aw, can we have her if you don't want her?

Bellatrix14 · 16/05/2019 16:28

I get the cat bed thing is a bit disappointing. You don’t want a cat called ‘Poppy’ in a bed that says ‘Toby’. I am pedantic and it would annoy me. However I would either give the girl cat the boy name (it’s a talking point) or buy a new bed. It’s really not a big deal.

The fact that you’ve bought everything in blue (would you have bought pink for a girl?) is entirely irrelevant. Cats can’t see colours properly. And when you take her out in the pram you can just explain to everyone that you had a gender mix up. Oh no wait, she won’t be in a pram. Because she’s a cat Hmm

You are disappointed, but this is a massive overreaction. Either take the girl or wait for a new litter.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/05/2019 16:37

"I’ve brought everything blue and had a personalised bed with “HIS” name on it"

This is a terrible situation for you. I hope you can come to terms with this awful news. Take as much time as you need.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 16/05/2019 16:39

And if you want an example of actually quite bad consequences of misgendering animals - we once bought two boy gerbils. Clearly they weren't both boys as they had a baby and then one of them ate it. That's sadder than the wrong colour blanket for fucks sake, have a word with yourself...:

JudgeRindersMinder · 16/05/2019 16:44

I hope you have money for all the therapy your moggy will need after the blue blanket and accessories

Maxineputyourredshoeson · 16/05/2019 16:50

Meh my ‘cheap tom’ which was actually free is actually a girl, called Alan! She’s 4 now and never given a shiny shit that she has a boys name. Either take the cat you originally picked or find another breeder, it really isn’t the end of the world.

MsTSwift · 16/05/2019 16:55

Rather out of proportion response! Vet told us our bunnies were little sisters 6 months later our 2 buns had become 7 and the doe pregnant again before we realised she had babies - cue stress of finding homes for numerous rabbits and getting her spayed ASAP was a real hassle and worry I wasn’t angry though one of those things

MyKingdomForBrie · 16/05/2019 16:57

It just could not matter any less, what the fuck difference does it's genitals make?! Honestly get your head out your arse.

bluebluezoo · 16/05/2019 19:50

t just could not matter any less, what the fuck difference does it's genitals make?!

But what if o/p isn’t a girly girl and doesn't want to live in a sea of pink, worry about that teenage hormonal bitchy phase and watch chick flicks on a saturday night?

Maybe she could bond better with a boy running round the garden and playing with balls. Plus boys are more loving, and simple creatures, just want exercise, food and cuddles.

Aw12345 · 09/06/2019 10:42

It's very difficult when they're so small. Why does it matter?! Who cares if it's 7kg or 8kg? I think you're getting a pet for the wrong reasons. Either way the cat will be a joy to own and will love you no matter if you're male or female!
