Kitten and newborn

Hi all,
We have purchased a male kitten, I’ve grown up with cats and I don’t know why I feel scared of this kitten.

We had to close the bedroom door on us last night and the kitten kept miaowing. We closed the door so the kitten doesn’t come next to our newborn.
I’ve had to come to the other room to stay with kitten due to miaowing which means I can’t stay with my baby. Can someone please give me some advise so that the kitten stops yawning

A tracker? Do you mean a microchip? They don't track your pet, but they can be scanned if your pet is found to help reunite him with you. Make sure you update this with your details asap.
If you don't have pedigree papers, you have almost certainly bought a tabby moggie (still absolutely lovely, and less likely to be stolen!), not a Bengal.
Your vaccination card should show at least two vaccines about 3-4 weeks apart - if there is only one he may need another vaccine.
I can't believe that Shpock allows animal sales! There's another kitten for sale near me, so sad Sad

On the vaccination card there are two vaccines you are correct. The breed is written as tabby/tiger so I have no idea. I’ve looked at the Bengal traits and he’s certainly like a Bengal. I don’t like pets being sold on shpock either, because you don’t know who you’re giving the pet to and now know how they will be looked after.

You’ve bought a Bengal and you have a newborn? You’ve done a really stupid thing. This has not come from a reputable breeder either.

AwkwardPaws27 · 24/04/2019 13:39

Brilliant (I used to work at a vets, not everyone knows they need two so thought I'd mention it). He'll need annual boosters to keep him protected, and you can think about neutering soon (definitely before he goes outside, if he is going to).
Yes, that worries me too, as you don't know if the buyers are nice people - but also that I saw a lot of sick puppies and kittens which were bought online, and sometimes even forged paperwork or lying about breeds to charge more money.
Best of luck with your kitty x

SugarPrincess67 · 24/04/2019 13:44

Aw thank you for your help, it’s greatly appreciated. It will be a home cat but I will still neuture hummus.

If he is true Bengal he should have papers telling you who is parents are, date of birth but I doubt youd get that from sphock. How much did you pay, they have one for £600. I hope he is.a healthy and happy kitten who fits in with your family. Can you post a photo for us to see.

SugarPrincess67 · 24/04/2019 14:04

This is hummus taking my husbands part of the bed, officially making hummus the man of the house ❤️
He fits in perfectly, he’s exploring everywhere. I took him to the bathroom and he tried to explore the toilet 🤦🏽‍♀️Luckily closed the lid in time

He’s mixed breed apparently between tabby and Bengal

Easterbunnyhashoppedoff · 24/04/2019 14:09

Looks like a common or garden moggy to me!! Blush

wigglypiggly · 24/04/2019 14:29

He is not a Bengal, it doesn't matter because he looks a beautiful ball of mischief but I hope you weren't ripped off.

SugarPrincess67 · 24/04/2019 14:31

No I wasn’t ripped off thankfully, whatever breed he is, he’s perfect ❤️

OP posts:
wigglypiggly · 24/04/2019 14:33

All cats are perfect, they know it tooGrin

SugarPrincess67 · 24/04/2019 14:34

They certainly do, especially this young gentleman

OP posts:
FoxSquadKitten · 24/04/2019 14:49

Oh dear, that's not a Bengal, just a normal moggy Dread to think how much you paid for himTiger indeed
Thank God he's not, tbh. I've got a Bengal and I would never get another one they're mental
Can't believe you bought him from bloody Shpock either 🙄

Well you'll just have to make the best of it now, give him lots of attention and love. Please don't shut him out, he won't harm the baby.

SugarPrincess67 · 24/04/2019 14:56

Honestly, you have nothing to be worried about. He’s happy and playful. I’m buying a cot safety net to prevent hummus from getting into the cat for my own sanity.
He’s a beautiful little kitty regardless. It’s so weird though as I checked the traits for a Bengal, he has the traits for a Bengal. He has not left a place untouched, he’s even gone into the kitchen sink 🤦🏽‍♀️ He’s very vocal too. He can miaow for the sake of miaowing. He’s getting a couple of toys and a lovely pink bed tomorrow

Ermmmm OP, Hummus is not a Bengal nor a Bengal mix. There are plenty of moggies just like Hummus at your local animal rescue for free. Don’t fund idiots who sell pets on second hand websites.

Good name though.

bluebluezoo · 24/04/2019 14:56

That is not a bengal, or bengal cross!

However consider yourself lucky, bengals are a nightmare.

It’s a Bengal cat, they’re super friendly and most importantly child friendly

Child friendly if you consider wanting to lay on top of the baby, in the pram with the baby, in the cot with the baby, at the table with the children....

Super friendly if you mean wanting constant attention, but not necessarily stroked or picked up....

furrytoebean · 24/04/2019 15:02

I have a bog standard (don’t tell her that!) tabby cat who sleeps in the sink and licks plates.
She’s wonderful but is most definitely not a Bengal, just like your lovely hummus.

Easterbunnyhashoppedoff · 24/04/2019 15:02

As Hummus is a suave name and he is a moggy, how about Paste?

PCohle · 24/04/2019 15:09

He looks lovely. Buying a kitten off a secondhand app when you have a newborn is... brave though.

SugarPrincess67 · 24/04/2019 15:11

Ahh so I was tricked! It doesn’t Bengal or no Bengal, I’m glad he’s with me now ❤️
And I’m sure hummus and my little girl will be perfect little buddies.
So sink sitting is something I’m going to have to get use to 😂 my ocd doesn’t even let me leave a spoon in the sink let alone a big bundle of hummus.
Haha- paste is a great name too- however I’m middle eastern and hummus is something we all adore and enjoy, that’s how I came up with the name. I thought about Baba ghanoush but my husband said no because it’s too long and when baby starts to talk it will get confusing 😂Thinking of hummus makes me hungry - not the cat though.

We bought the cat from a large family. Here about 10 kids at the door crying that he’s leaving them. The family have asked for videos and photos of hummus. They seem like a good family

furrytoebean · 24/04/2019 15:14

All my cats sit in the sink. It’s annoying but I forgive them

bluebluezoo · 24/04/2019 15:26

My family have had 6 bengals/bengal crosses over the years.

None have ever sat in the sink. One got in the bath with me a few times.

You can tell a bengal owners house as all surfaces, shelves, window ledges etc are completely bare :). That an the fact you are usually accosted the minute you walk in the door...

Why would a “good family” sell such a lovely kitten? On an app ffs.

A) passing on a cat so soon after getting it. Hardly responsible.
B) selling it on scpock ffs. It could have gone to dog baiters or anywhere. If they were a good family they’d have worked with a rescue to make sure he went to a good home.

It’s a fairly common trick to ask for photos/videos- to make you believe they are reluctantly rehoming rather than selling commercially. Same with placing animals with families so they don’t appear to come from puppy/kitten farms or byb.

I have a rescue bengal atm. It was kept in a house with one room furnished so prospective kitten buyers would think it was a home. In reality she was there on her own 90% of the time having litter after litter until her body gave up and she was dumped at rescue.
