Our cat dissapeared for 24 hours or so and now she seems a bit odd

She was last seen yesterday morning when she was let out. She stayed out all of last night (although she often does) and didn't come back until about 5 min ago, when she strolled in very very slowly, walked around the living room and went straight back out again.

She doesn't seem to be as lively as normal, and didn't touch her food at all.

Should I be worried, or has just she just been out burning the candle at both ends ?? She is a very sociable cat, and would not surprise me if she was leading a double life with 2 lots of food etc.

It would be a right pain for me to organise a trip to the vets, so don't really want to do that if she is just a bit tired .

If she has been poisoned she might be desperate to go out just to get some grass into her (acts as an emetic for cats). Be assertive with your dad. Three days not eating is enough that she probably needs to be on fluid at vets soon. Oh, is she drinking but not eating? Drinking is a good sign.

I was going to suggest that she might have been raped when you said she was funny around the back legs. It is that time of year and a stray tom's bite or scratch might have been enough to set off an abcess.

Good luck. Please don't let your dad say no.

Probably be too soon for you to be back but let us know asap.

bump

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 13:49

I'm back.

Vet checked her over and said he thinks it might be an infection, even though she does not have a temp at all. So he gave her a shot of ab's and then i have to carry on with them tommorow.

He said to give her baby food, and syringe water into her mouth.

So, just stocked up on litter tray, litter, baby food etc, and have just got her to take one syringe full of water, so thats a start.

One of our cats came home a few weeks ago with a damaged chin and really jumpy around us, seems that maybe someone kicked him

he hasn't been the same since.

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 13:55

Lazyline, has he been seen by a vet ?

glad you were able to get to the vets today, poor pussa. Lets hope the anti's kick in now, and she gets better. Let us know.

LazyLine · 12/07/2007 13:57

No, NC, now I think about it, I feel a bit ashamed that we didn't take him. He's physically fine, but just very clingy and after attention all the time when before he was very independent.

I just never thought of taking him. It didn't occur to me at first that he might have had an altercation with a human.

Do you think I should still take him now?

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 14:03

I would if you can LL, as he may have other injuries. Don't feel bad either, it's a pain in the arse sorting out vets visits.

I will hopefully (crosses fingers and toes) update later when she has eaten something.

She has just eaten roughly 2 spoonfuls of baby food, warmed up.

het well soon kitty {{{hugs}}}}

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 16:07

Just got back in from school, and she has eaten some more of the baby food I left her, and she just ate about 3 peicies of dry cat food, oh and has just had another syringe full of water. So, she is doing ok at the mo.

LazyLine · 12/07/2007 17:26

Aww hope she is okay.
Am going to make a vets appointment tomorrow.

NAB3 · 12/07/2007 17:28

It sounds like she is a bit better and let's hope she improves quickly and fully.

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 17:28

Hope he is ok Lazyline.

Tilly has now decided she will eat her own dry food . I think she thinks I will let her out then poor thing.

nc read all the posts and sorry to hear about your puss couldnt help noticing that you seemed to be in a desperate situation im sure that if youd have contacted your local animal samaritans or cats protection league and explained how desperatly worried you were they could have arranged a 'pet taxi' to take puss to vets it might be worth makin a few enquiries in case your in same position again.
you didnt mention how old puss is.
dont know whether you know but cats can get cat flu and even feline aids.
i think anti biotics will clear it up soon though.
Glad you got puss to vets and maybe get dad a little special gift [not expensive but meaningful] then maybe he'll be more accommodating if you need help again .
