Our cat dissapeared for 24 hours or so and now she seems a bit odd

She was last seen yesterday morning when she was let out. She stayed out all of last night (although she often does) and didn't come back until about 5 min ago, when she strolled in very very slowly, walked around the living room and went straight back out again.

She doesn't seem to be as lively as normal, and didn't touch her food at all.

Should I be worried, or has just she just been out burning the candle at both ends ?? She is a very sociable cat, and would not surprise me if she was leading a double life with 2 lots of food etc.

It would be a right pain for me to organise a trip to the vets, so don't really want to do that if she is just a bit tired .

Just tried her with some tuna but she refused it.

This may sound odd but when I put her on the floor stood up, her back legs seem to be really far apart.

Both of my cats have been shot with an air rifle by some awful person. You cant see any wound on the outside but obviously the pain inside makes them move very gingerly. I think x-ray is the only way to be sure and x-rays are expensive. One of mine had shot very near her heart but they couldn't do anything and she just had to live with it.

pirategirl · 11/07/2007 19:11

i was going to say, air gun pellets, as one of our cats was shot between the eyes when i was a little girl. She survived this tho!!! got home somehow.

Sounds to me like she has been clipped by a car. If so she has had a lucky escape, she might well have internal probs? Or bruised.

Our cat went weird a few weeks back, similar, wentoff her food for about 2 days, looked pale ( i know i know)but was back to normal after that.

How much will a check cost, at my vets would prob be about £30?

How far is the pdsa. can you ring them, and see if they can help with a life. Do you know anyone at all who can help out.???

nutcracker · 11/07/2007 19:14

No clue how much local vet costs, but cannot afford £30.

Nearest pdsa is miles away, and a pain to get to by bus on your own let alone with a cat.

My dad drives but really doesn't seem bothered that i cannot get there.

Rang local vets who were closed, so rang their out of hours thingy and they were more than happy to see her tonight, but wanted £78 up front just to look at her, and then other costs for treatment on top, payable at the time of treatment.

Have rung my dad to ask if he can take me to the PDSA tommorow, but he's not in.

did he call you back?

nutcracker · 11/07/2007 22:02

Nope, am so pissed off with his attitude. Yet again , he knows I cannot get there but will he offer, no he bloody won't.

Used to take my aunt and all her bloody pets though.

Do u mean has she been biten ???

I have checked her as much as I can, and she doesn't seem to have any cuts, bits scratches, broken limbs or anything.

She just got up and had a walk round and she uses this wicker chest we've got to stretch out, puts her front paws up and stretches her back legs out and she did that n problem. She is also grooming herself ok.

Really it's just the not eating and seeming a bit off colour.

Tried the tuna again but she practically recoiled.

And hungry, just realised I haven't eaten.

OP posts:
nutcracker · 12/07/2007 07:24

Well she still hasn't and won't eat. Have offered her own food and tuna this morning and she won't touch one little bit.

She wants to go out, is meowing at the doors and windows, but if I let her out it could be days before she comes back.

I'm going to ring the pdsa at 9 and see if I can take her today. Mind you have to persuade my dad to take me first.

Oh and I left ds's cereal bowl on the table, as she will usually jump up and drink the milk the minute she thinks anyone isn't looking, but she hasn't done that either.

Just rung my dad, and he will take me today, so at least I can get her checked over.

Your poor cat nutty.
Our cat did this recently after we moved house ... Then one day DS was playing with her and suddenly she started limping ... we thought he had broken her leg
Took her to the vet and she had an abscess from an old wound from a fight. We had no idea she had been in a fight - no blood or anything just off colour for days. When the vet shaved her fur there was a huge gash that we had no idea about that had scabbed over and become an abscess [eew]
Then a month later she was out all night and came home with another gash near the first one.
Are there other cats around that she is vying for territory with?
Cat fights are vicious and sadly my cat is coming off worst in them at the moment as she is the new cat on the block

Let us know how she is when you get back from the vet.

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 08:12

There are a couple of new cats around yeah and Tilly would more than be up for a fight, she thinks she is the boss round here and even tries to take on the dogs.

Fingers crossed the PDSA say I can take her straight away, feel so stressed sitting here doing bog all.

She is not happy with me at the mo as I won't let her out.

Try feeding her something extra good. Like a can of tuna. If she turns that down then I would be concern. Maybe she is in heat.

Biglips · 12/07/2007 08:19

.eati - nutty had already tried to give the cat tuna but turned her nose up. poor kitty,,,hope she be ok xx

Leati · 12/07/2007 08:21

Sometimes you have to break the tuna up a bit.

Biglips · 12/07/2007 08:30

i gave my cat tuna (not cat tuna) and she ate it but then i gave her the sardines in tomatoe flavour sauce from a small tin - she wolfed it down - yum yum yum!!

nutcracker · 12/07/2007 09:50

I did mash the tuna up, and tried just leaving tiny bits of it in front of her, but no joy.

She has just had dioreah too, quite green. Living room stinks now ,,,,lovely.

Have an appointment at 12:10 today.
