Right... ready for this....?

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR GH

My poor DH is in surgery as we speak to sort out the metal work in his still broken arm. That's bad enough right.....?

We're looking after a friend's Boxer for a week. After taking DH to hospital at 7:30am, then rushing back with kids so we can get ready for school... I walk in the door and find...

DH's unopened Father's Day cake.. gone
DS2's remains of Birthday cake.... gone
My chocolates DH bought in Finland.... gone
My Gordon Ramsay birthday present chocolates... gone
A packet of Haribo Banana sweets.... gone
My DS2's Lego set (only) partially chewed
A pack of playing cards .. chewed
My beautiful cream rug, COVERED in smeared chocolate cake/chocolates

The B*ard had gone into to kitchen and jumped up at the work top and grabbed all these things and proceeded to chew his way through all the packaging and devour THE LOT.

Problem is, this is ONE PAMPERED POOCH, and is obviously not used to being told NO. He also doesn't tolerate being locked away, so HAS to have to run of the house.

Ho Hum, only another 7 days with him.

[crying emoticon]

I COULD WELL DO WITHOUT THIS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Rantity Rantity Rantity Rant!!!

And (hiccup) and and I'm 6 months pregnant!!!!

Just waiting for the inevitable throw up and squits later

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

Hopeitwontbebig · 21/06/2007 20:15

I know Boxers are quite large but would the vets/local kennels/pet shop lend or rent you a dog cage so that you can contain the destructive creature for part of the day - especially when you're out or busy.

If he's bored, you could try one of those large plastic balls with holes in. You fill it with small dog biscuits and they push it round the house waiting for the biscuits to drop out. Did he arrive with lots of toys, particularly chewing ones? Or you could get him a large hide bone from the pet shop - they are cheap but can be quite messy. Though he may growl or bite anyone who tries to take it away.

Your cream rug is f*&^%ed, isn't it?!

Hopeitwontbebig · 22/06/2007 10:31

Hey Duchess, thanks for your tips. Great ideas!!

Yes I'm thinking the same about my cream rug. I'm gutted, because it's beautiful, and I'm so careful with our dog and children to make sure it doesn't get it dirty. I've managed for over a year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was showing my friends the pictures I took on my phone, and they're all appalled. Just wish I could post them on my profile!

I know I will laugh about this one day.....

He came with one toy FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Think that's a great idea re the food dispenser toy, I've been meaning to get one for our dog.

I would ask the owners to replace some of the stuff

normally out of politness I would smile sweetly and say every things been fine but after that dogs comedy of errors I would have to point out the truths just so I never got put in the position of being asked to have it again

if he does it in your house he must do it in theirs so they should have warned you

if its not raining put it in the garden

when are they back off holiday

AnAngelWithin · 22/06/2007 10:44

oh god. deja vu. i took in a stray boxer dog a few months ago and he destroyed absolutely EVERYTHING he could get hold of, including my rabbit

I would ring the owners and tell them what the dog is doing, tell them they need to replace what the dog has damaged adn that you are going to put the dog in the boarding kennels.

really feel for you.

magnolia1 · 22/06/2007 10:50

Although not strictly true, it used to be belived that all boxers had schizophrenia, sounds like this one has some real pyscological problems

Seriously though he needs a crate or the garden. He is obviously not used to behaving for any length of time and it's his owners fault not his

I would phone his owners and arrange to put him in a kennel for the rest of the holiday. Sounds awful and I love dogs but this is too much for you to handle and you are far too nice!!

BTW, I have 2 dogs and on holiday in August do you want them for 4 days

Hopeitwontbebig · 22/06/2007 10:52

AAW, how awful for you, your poor rabbit It seems like Boxers are a bit of a handful then?! It's a shame, because I always loved Boxers. My Nan used to breed them before I was born, so was brought up believing that Boxers were the 'best' dog!

Well we've got 'mad Maddox' the bad Boxer until Tuesday!! My RL friends were appalled this morning when I showed them the pics I'd taken on my phone. They all can't believe how selfish the owners were expecting us to look after him, considering they knew that DH was going into hospital, and I can't walk him because he pulls so much.

Something occurred to me this morning..... they pay £20 a day for a dog walker to walk him, because the wife can't handle him and the baby!!!!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!! SO WHY IS IT THEY EXPECT MEEEEEEEEEEEEEE TO BE ABLE TO WALK HIM OR DH WHO HAS A PARALYSED ARM AND WAS GOING INTO HOSPITAL???????????????????///

Thing is, all this puts my DH in a difficult position because the owner of this dog is a close work colleague/friend... and because DH has just come out of hospital I don't really want to push the point any more than I have done. He's really cross about the situation too. Thing is, we're both going to be pretty much in the house all the time now until Tues when he's being collected. We will definitely give them the vets bill and probably the bill for 'attempting' to clean our rug.

Also, ha ha ha ha , I'm laughing now.... because I've now got to stage where I've gone a bit doolally!!.... PILs are coming this afternoon and wait for it.........

drumroll//////////// they're bringing their badly behaved Jack Russel (who damaged our house last yr when we looked after him!)

Woooooooooooohay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

dh, ds and I went for a picnic in a lovely spot near where we live. As we're eating I spot a lovely looking boxer dog nearby with a family and commented on it to dh. Next thing, it bounded over to us toward ds (3 yrs)and as we tried to protect ds it ran round us many times. Ds was hysterical and the owners were helpless to stop him.

Is your poor DS scared of dogs now as a result?

OP posts:
Bananaknickers · 22/06/2007 11:38

If this makes you feel a tiny bit better my dog has just ruined a pair of expensive Italian leather shoes I had worn once and was about to list on e bay. They were on the table and he managed to get one down a chew it to peices. I was in the shower , my son on the other hand was sitting next to the bloody dog on the computer. What is it with me and a screen in front of them .
Most expensive item to date was my mobile phone. That was on the breakfat bar ontop of a paper and he pulled the paper off along with my phone. Bless his furry feet

plummymummy · 22/06/2007 22:09

He is petrified Unfortunately I had put a lot of work into getting him not to be scared of dogs and it was all in vain. They are lovely looking dogs but a tad unruly. Training sessions are in order I reckon. I don't think dogs who are unruly should be allowed in public spaces off their lead. I also think parks should provide dog exercising areas so that such dogs can run around to their hearts content.

Hopeitwontbebig · 23/06/2007 16:25

Who wants to hear what happened yesterday when the naughty Jack Russell arrived???????

Well, said Jack Russell is ALSO a very very pampered pooch. FIL treats him like a baby... really, it's vomit inducing to watch. He is VERY protective over him.

So yesterday PILs arrive, and we suggest allowing the dogs to greet each other in the garden and sort out their pecking order etc. Inevitably the Jack Russell snarls at the Boxer, so the Boxer snarls back a bit. At which point FIL flies into a blind panic and launches himself between them and ends up on the floor in the mud!

A few minutes later, I'm in the kitchen explaining to FIL that they just need to sort it out themselves, and that the dogs are picking up on his anxiety and he needs to relax.

No sooner had I said this, FIL walks into the hallway, carrying a freshly made cup of tea, the Boxer looks like he is going to jump up a bit.....................................

SO HE THROWS HIS HOT CUP OF TEA OVER HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGGGG

THIS, all in the space of 15 minutes.

FIL then announces that he is going to drive home there and then (they live 3 hrs away) because this Boxer is dangerous and his precious pooch wouldn't attack etc! We then explained that actually his dog is the nasty one and has bitten our lovely Golden Retriever on the ear before. Me and MIL managed to persuade him that the dogs would eventually be fine....... and they were. BUT, everytime he went near the Boxer, the Boxer would growl.

I know he's been a really naughty dog this week, but I do feel really sorry for him now, he does seem quite traumatized.

since choc is poisonous to dogs, why don't you offer this one some more?

sorry, i feel for you.

what does he do if you confine him to a single room?
i would be tempted to confine him for a short period of time then take him out and praise him when he doesn't whine. then see if you can do it for longer and longer periods. he may accept it sooner from you than if it was his owners. kinda like how kids behave differently for people who aren't their parents.

Hopeitwontbebig · 24/06/2007 11:35

Speccy, I know, I felt really sorry for him when he was covered in hot tea. I took him straight in the garden and hosed him down with cold water. Thankfully he doesn't seem to have been burnt.

Totally agree with the training thing. The thing is, he is absolutely trainable, in the week or so we've had him, there are certain things I have managed to train him NOT to do....

like force his way past us when he open the front door, he now waits.
He also used to force his way up onto the sofa, regardless of whether there was someone sitting there or not, he's stopped this.

Also, at first he wouldn't tolerate being locked in our utility room at all, we can now lock him in there for it seems any length of time, albeit with our dog, and he seems happy. I wouldn't trust him in there if we left the house though.

The owners have a way to go........ but I suspect this is just the result of yet another pampered pooch.

Our poor dog is just watching all this with quiet bemusement.

ROLL ON TUESDAY !!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
sparklygothkat · 26/06/2007 23:40

aww poor dog, having tea thrown over him Your FIL's JR sounds just like my parents yorkie, very pampered. Well its tuesday now, how did the owners react when you told them how he destroyed your house..??

Hopeitwontbebig · 27/06/2007 10:09

Oh Sparkly, I felt really bad for them.. they were mortified. They have apologised profusely and have offered to pay for any damage.

They also said it was a very stupid idea of theirs to ask us to look after him, given his (predicted) behaviour, the fact I'm pregnant and the fact that DH was going into hospital!

So glad he's gone, I've got my house back now!!
