my dog is 17 months old, and is still destroying things. Last year he destroyed the surround of the trampoline which I had to replace, yesterday I spent 2 hours sewing up the holes he put into the new one, he has chewed the protective ring too. He has chewed the kids swings, scooters, and anything that he can. I will say that he doesn't chew anything actually in the house anymore, but when it comes to the garden its a difference matter.
He also barks lots which annoys me and possibly the neighbours too. Some of it is him being protective, and when the neighbours kids tease him.
How can i stop this bahaviour?

He is allowed to see them but not to jump. Is that wrong?

he is not a problem when we aren't here, only in the garden, he is never left in the garden while we are out. He is crated when we go out, in the house.

sparklygothkat · 03/06/2007 22:01

that is one of the main problems, he does baark in the crate.

I have to say that i love the crate!! He goes into it when we are eating (the kids liked to feed him under the table ) and when we go out, and at night. He also takes himself into it when he is sleepy

Sorry, don't buy all that pack stuff, very ancient and the 2 behaviorists I have spoken to do not advise trying to have a pecking order ect....
Ours go on the sofa but will get off whenever we say

magnolia1 · 03/06/2007 22:04

Mine love their crates too. The doors are open all day and they go in when they want peace and quite.

sparklygothkat · 03/06/2007 22:05

I make him come in from the garden, with my stern 'NO, IN' he loves the garden so hates it when I do that

also how can I get him to understand that if we are outside with people that 'don't like staffs' that he should be quiet until they have gone and then he can play with us?
actually I suppose the only way i can get around that is a pen

Will have to agree to disagree, have also had dogs all my life and not once have we made a thing of going through doors 1st or eating 1st ect.... Never had a badly behaved dog (apart from chewing ) Not one growl, snap, refusal to do anything. Complete respect from them that they also get from us

magnolia1 · 03/06/2007 22:14

Agree with the word NO roble with mione is they go to their bed even when I say it to the kids, poor things don't actually realise it's not them I'm talking too
