DD1 (8) wants one.

We have a Springer Spaniel that chases everything that moves.

We are suseptable to rats in the garden.

Don't fancy cleaning the darn thing out.

They have long teeth.

Anything else I can arm myself with? She's promised she'll got to the pet shop herself if we don't give in (impossible, but it shows her strength of determination)

I BLOODY DON'T WANT ONE!!!!!

ah

The people that do eglo things do cool rabbit hutches (not that we have a rabbit mind you). Jabs are expensive. Will your dog eat it?

nickytwotimes · 10/04/2007 19:46

earl, ther eare some rabbits for sale in the form of a gillet on here tonight btw!!!!!!

don't get a bunny. i am animal daft and love my pets, but my bunny was such hard work - very destructive, though very affectionate. more high maintainance than a dog imho.

can you borrow a friends for a few weeks and let her see how much drugery is involved???
if you do end up giving in, fgs get 2 as they are very sociable

misdee · 10/04/2007 19:47

they are not lovely cuddly creatures. they have strong back legs that hurt if they kick out. their teeth may need to be filed, they need checking for flystrike in the warmer weather as maggots can eat them.

earlgrey · 10/04/2007 19:51

Oh, eff, nothing can be harder work than a dog, surely? Springer has quite a soft mouth, but may find it more interesting than playing with a ball.

We have no pals with a rabbit. Which makes me wonder why .... and it's not 'cos I'm Norma No Mates, so there!

oh, yes, earl, my bunny was harder work than my border collie....

nickytwotimes · 10/04/2007 19:56

btw, have you checked out the gillet for sale yet?
could you buy her that and just wave it around for her? you know, make it "hop"and stuff?

earlgrey · 10/04/2007 19:57

Bloody Hell, NTT, in what way? We had a BC till it died last year, and Nothing, Nothing, could have been harder work than her!!!

Not a good pet IME. They live outside which can all too easily mean out of sight and out of mind. They produce mountains of sh*t which all has to be cleaned out. They have very sharp claws and strong back legs - good way of getting a nasty infected scratch on a toddlers arm....

However if you can house-train a rabbit they can make good indoor pets. But be aware that their wee is like paint-stripper....

misdee · 10/04/2007 19:57

mine is a PITA. its MINE not my childrens. he is hard work, cleaning his hutch can be hard work, i wash it out with the hose on warmer days and he runs free. he hasnt escaped the garden yet, but am expecting to do so soon.

at least he has stopped mutilated himself, he was very nervous when i got him about a year ago. isnt so bad now. but still doesnt like to be handled.

misdee · 10/04/2007 19:58

he is a PITA but i adore him.

nickytwotimes · 10/04/2007 20:01

i found bunny harder than dog because she was willful but thick, so you couldn't train her like a dog but she was still very strong and needed exercise in the garden while supervised. the vet bills were big - innoculations, nuetering(get insatiable sexual appetite otherwise!, various ailments and that maggoty thing below which was hideous. also she got arthritis and went blind in her old age so needed continuous medication and we could not move stuff in the garden....
i'm really selling this aren't i??!!

nickytwotimes · 10/04/2007 20:02

yes, missdee, you put it well - a pita, but i loved mine too

misdee · 10/04/2007 20:05

i can do you a pic of the scratch on my arm.

tinkerbellhadpiles · 10/04/2007 20:06

They die fairly quickly. That's the only thing to recommend them as pets.

southeastastra · 10/04/2007 20:06

i don't find rabbits that much hard work really. you could get a small rabbit.

nickytwotimes · 10/04/2007 20:08

mine seemed to live for f**king ever!! she was a lovely thing though

misdee · 10/04/2007 20:08

i dont think the 9years i had my old rabbit was quick lol.

earlgrey · 10/04/2007 20:10

Go, misdee, go! Give us one! How long ago did it happen? It's those bloomin' teeth (along with everything else) that worry me.
