My cat has been ripped to pieces by dogs

My beautiful 25 month old Norwegian Forest Cat - Blossom, was mauled to death by dogs on Tuesday night.

We didn't find her body until yesterday. To say I am fucking heartbroken is the understatement of the century.

No real reason for posting. Am sat here in tears and not sure what else to do.

Oh, how horrid for you. Poor cat.
Have you reported it to the police?

fishie · 30/03/2007 09:52

that is awful you poor thing and poor poor blossom. are they someone's dogs or just wild?

MrsJohnCusack · 30/03/2007 10:11

you poor, poor thing - I would be absolutely devastated too

I guess the only thing you can do is allow yourself to grieve for as long as it takes. Pets are part of the family and something like this is just so upsetting

dejags · 30/03/2007 10:38

Thank you all.

Unfortunately we have no idea whose dogs are responsible. It happened on an open piece of land across the street from our house. Even if we did know the police wouldn't do anything about it - they encourage ownership of vicious dogs in SA, owning a ferocious dog is the No. 1 way to deter burglars/criminals.

At least we found her body and have buried her at home. DS1 and I picked a bunch of flowers from the garden and I promised him that I will not cry again.

We still have Blossoms sister but I am never going to own another pet after Bo goes. I feel like I have lost a family member

i'm so sorry dejags

expatinscotland · 30/03/2007 10:41

Oh, dejags, I am SO sorry!

suejonez · 30/03/2007 10:42

I'm so sorry - I too would be devastated to lose one of my cats, particularly in such a horrible way.

Hulababy · 30/03/2007 10:43

Oh I am so sorry

BandofBunnies · 30/03/2007 10:43

Oh no Dejags. How sad for you and your family.
Think you're probably upset more because of the horrible way it happened too. Poor Blossom.
Even if owning dogs is encouraged there should still be some penalty or fine for a vicious attack like that. What if it had been a child???

fennel · 30/03/2007 10:43

I'm so sorry. We had a Norwegian Forest cat too, he was utterly adorable and by far the loveliest cat we've ever had. He was very accident prone, and got run over in the end. I guess they are often out at night when other cats spend their nights on the sofa.

TeeCee · 30/03/2007 10:43

oh no, how awful, I'm so, so sorry

ComeOVeneer · 30/03/2007 10:45

So sorry to hear this Dejags. I know what you mean about the vicious dogs over there. The house we stay in in Camps bay has the most vicious looking dog next door which used to jump up at the wall when he heard anyone walk by, it terrified dd.

madoldcatlady · 30/03/2007 10:49

So sad to hear that dejags. My SIL has a wegie. They're beautiful.

smeeinit · 30/03/2007 10:52

oh dejags thats so awful for you
(((((((hugs))))))))))
its dreadfull when you lose a pet and i know exactly how you feel when you say you feeel like you have lost a family member.

we lost our beutifull cat on the road last jan and i really felt my heart had been ripped out, theres not a day passes when i dont think of him and what he meant to me and my boys.

it does get easier but theres nothing i can say to make you feel better at the moment,i just send you lots of virtual love and hugs.

Dinosaur · 30/03/2007 10:56

That's awful dejags .

Radley · 30/03/2007 10:58

OMG I am so so sorry for you.

I am a big cat lover myself and cannot even begin to imagine what you are going through.

ShowOfHands · 30/03/2007 11:00

Oh dejags, you poor thing. And that poor little cat.

I am so very sorry. My cats are part of my family and when one went missing in January I was absolutely devastated. I can tell myself that she's tucked up cosily with another family, I can't imagine being faced so brutally with what happened to your little Blossom.

How horrible for you. Look after yourself please. The more you talk of SA, the more I am ed. Have I imagined that you're moving to Australia soon?

dejags · 30/03/2007 11:46

You are right SOH. We are due to move to Australia in December. So not too long now (does anybody own a time machine?).

I am getting the point where I hate, hate, hate this place .

I think that a lot of SAfricans are very complacent when it comes to what happens in their own back gardens. My neighbour was so brutal when he told me about Blossom, he just said "oh, I didn't realise it was your cat, but some dogs attacked her on Tuesday night and she's been lying dead across the road ever since" it's like this is just the norm here. What's more he said it all in front of DS1 who took the news very badly indeed.

Arrghhhh.... Get me OUT OF HERE!

OP posts:
MamaG · 30/03/2007 11:49

oh how insensitive to say it in front of DS1! How old is he? Poor boy

tissy · 30/03/2007 11:50

sorry to hear this, dejags.

piglit · 30/03/2007 11:50

My cousins live out there (have done for 20 years) and they are moving back. They said everyone seems to have a really hard and aggressive attitude to life now.

Very sorry to hear your news.

dejags · 30/03/2007 11:59

He's nearly 6 MamaG.

I tried to backpeddle afterwards by saying that we didn't really know how she died, but that she was special and God needed her to keep his Granny company - cheesy but the best I could come up with at the time.

MamaG · 30/03/2007 11:59

oh poor little boy
