So I got up this morning and found part of a cats tail in the conservatory

I have a a cat but it was not part of her tail and there was no blood on it. Any reasonable explanations for exactly how a cat loses the end of it tail?

Nearly puked when I realised what it was, it's bad enough when the sodding cat brings live frogs in but pieces of her own species - give me a break!

I'm guessing your cat has had a spat with another 'rival' cat and the other one has come off worst. Oh dear

pointydog · 16/03/2007 19:58

AAAAAAARRRRRGGGHHHHH!!

CuriousIncidentOfCatInNiteTime · 16/03/2007 19:59

really? can they fight badly enough to take off three inch's of tail? I did check the garden and sheds to make sure there wasn't an injured cat there but couldn't see any signs.

was the tail wriggling?

PinkTulips · 16/03/2007 20:57

pmsl... charming!

my old cat brought me a rabbit's head one morning and was very proud of himself and his sister used to insist on giving me live mice and rats!

fishie · 16/03/2007 20:57

i have heard of cat tail being shut in door and coming off. perhaps this happened and yours brought it home?

or else it is a dead cat dug up [yuckyuckyuck]

or a weird cat / lizard hybrid

pointydog · 16/03/2007 20:59

wonder what you'll find in your conservatory tomorrow morning?

horse's head?

raven?

DumbledoresGirl · 16/03/2007 20:59

Blimey! You take the prize for owning the most awesome fighting cat on Mumsnet!

My cats catch birds, mice, frogs and even bats, but the one time they caught a rat and severed its backbone so its back legs were paralysed, the two of them still lacked the nerve to finish it off!

southeastastra · 16/03/2007 20:59

omg this thread is awful! cats are bad

pointydog · 16/03/2007 21:02

blardy hell, dumbledore! You're too much of a realist

DumbledoresGirl · 16/03/2007 21:03

Pardon? Oh do you mean I was too grahpic in describing the injury done to the rat? Sorry. You get hardened to these things with cats around....

Although, maybe not. A tail would shock me too.

pointydog · 16/03/2007 21:06

yes, really graphic - horrific even.

I just wanted to think about edgar allan poe stuff not real paralysed rats (taht's more queasy than sad)

maveta · 16/03/2007 21:06

Could your cat have hurt her tail a while ago without you noticing? One of my cats was run over by a car as a kitten and once he was better we noticed the very end of his tail was broken, never stuck up straight and he obviously had no feeling in it, was always dragging it through his poo etc. Eventually that dead bit dropped off, no blood, no obvious sign that he´d lost part of his tail. except he had.

southeastastra · 16/03/2007 21:07

my neighbour has cats but doesn't let them out, is that normal

pointydog · 16/03/2007 21:09

it's not unusual, southeast. Bit of a shame, though, I think if no real reason for it

MascaraOHara · 16/03/2007 21:10

yuk to the cats tail. not heard of that one before but cats can really tear strips off each other..

DumbledoresGirl · 16/03/2007 21:13

Apologies pointydog.

I am sorry, but I can't help slightly smirking at the thought of the OP getting out a tape measure to see if her cat's tail is shorter in length than previously.

Presumably, the colour of the tail was not the same as your own cat? Any chance of advertising locally: Tail End Found! Has Your Cat Lost The End Of Its Tail?

Sorry, I am going now.....

longwaytogoandabitfurther · 16/03/2007 21:23

I was thinking of getting a dinky little kitten but I don't think i'll bother because I really don't want presentsof rats, mice or birds. ugh

southeastastra · 16/03/2007 21:38

i feel sorry for them, they're about 8 months old and they sit at the window looking out

CuriousIncidentOfCatInNiteTime · 16/03/2007 22:26

It looks like it belongs to my neighbours cat but how can I go and ask for god's sake?!

I did wonder if it was a variety of angora mouse but check for a face and feet but found none

Not looking forward to tomorrows offering

When I was a student, my landlady decided to economise on cat food. She stopped the Whiskas and replaced it with 'Honest Value Katkins'

Next morning, last night's food was untouched, but there was the head of a mouse, neatly cut off behind the ears, in the middle of the sitting room carpet.

Next morning, there was another, in exactly the same place - and the next day, and the next....
After a week she cracked, and Whiskas was back on the menu.
No more heads.

Could your cat be trying to tell you something?

MamaG · 16/03/2007 22:44

Sparkler1 · 16/03/2007 22:48

Our cat had to be put to sleep a couple of weeks ago - we've been wondering whether or not to get another one at some point but this thread is making me remember all the stuff we went through went ours was younger. Hmm maybe won't bother now!

CuriousIncidentOfCatInNiteTime · 16/03/2007 22:48

Well until the fat sod loses weight she's staying on IAMS light (my neighbour leaves food out for all the local cats it's so hard to keep her weight down)

I think canabalism is taking the message too far though

At least if you keep your cats in, you know they aren't going to have their tails hacked off by the local Don Corleone Cat!
