Can anyone offer any advice about training this breed and all other puppy related things?

The pup is a 11 week old bitch, very cute, looks like a cow (the colour).

Just wondering if anyone has a staff who could give me some pointers?

TIA

Just picked this thread up. Interesting to hear everyones views and particularly relevant to me at the moment.

We have a 10 year old Staffy and she's always been a loving, obediant dog and has never shown any aggression to animals or people.

I'm also expecting a baby in 6 weeks and I'd be lying if I said every aspect of my baby's welfare hasn't crossed my mind. Kennel club last year voted Staffies as no. 2 best breed with children. However, I would never trust any animal with a child 100%. If there is any sign of any kind of aggression - the dog will have to be re-homed and there will be no 2nd chances.

But at the end of the day - the baby is coming into our world - not the other way round. Everyone on this thread will have various hazards to deal with continually through the childs life like living in an area where there's heavy traffic or bad pollution, high crime rate etc etc. We live in a small rural farming community with it's own hazards and like all of you - we will be loving, responsible and protective parents.

Pippins...Just out of interest what dog was voted no 1 with kids? I have tried to search but found nothing.

I love staffies they do make me weary though their mouths remind me of a croc

I bought a jack russell pup a couple of weeks ago, would have loved a rottie though.

Just a word of warning, don't use Advocate spot on flea treatment - I did and now have cyanide poisoning from it

hercules1 - why would'nt you treat a dog as part of the family? Police dogs are treated like part of the family!! (I work in a vets that deal with police dogs all the time) Whats the point of having a dog if you have that view?

When we were expecting DS, we made the agreement that if there was any incling that there was any threat to DS, Chunk would have to go, However much we loved him.

when I brought DS home I introduced DS to Chunk. I said that you can smell but do not touch. From that day on Chunk never left his side, but would never touch him.

It wasn't until DS was up and toddling about did touching between them start, they absolutly love each other.

We set boundries, but Chunk was never ignored.

Pucca - don't actually know what breed is number one. A Kennel Club official was on a Radio 4 prog in the summer - talking about the cost of pets - he only mentioned Staffies because, according to a survey they did - they're also the cheapest dogs to keep and suffer less vets bills than any other.
