Getting a new dog soon but not sure which room is best for his bed.

In the hall.

Gingerbear · 06/12/2006 11:27

An Italian leather sofa in the room!!!!

Leander · 06/12/2006 11:30

Our is in the hall at the bottom of the stairs, we have a stairgate to stop him getting upstairs.

cupcakes · 06/12/2006 11:30

corner of the kitchen

I know some people hate having dogs in the kitchen and there are some days I completely agree. However

it is easily moppable
it is warm
it is in the centre of our house so dog doesn't feel shut away
I can shut him in there (I use a stairgate) and know he is safe and can't damage anything at night / when I'm out.

And just to repeat, because it is important: it is moppable.

Loshad · 06/12/2006 11:35

corner of the dining part of the litchen - agree with moppability

HuwEdwards · 06/12/2006 11:37

ours has never been upstairs (or on a sofa!)so never attempts it - agree completely with moppability - our hall is hard floor.

Piffle · 06/12/2006 11:37

near back door in kitchen, they sleep in a crate together (2 jack russells) close to door for easy letting out for wee etc
Also ease of mopping mucky footprints (formerly wee and poo before they house trained)

SparklyGothKat · 06/12/2006 11:44

In the ulitly (sp??) room, in a crate. Close to back door and also means that he doesn't go on when people are here as he can't see them. He is a staffy so have to shut him away when littlies are here as they are scared of him.

kslatts · 06/12/2006 11:57

In the hall, used to have a stairgate to stop her coming up stairs, removed it when she was 18 months old as by then she knew she wasn't allowed upstairs.

HappyMellowmas · 06/12/2006 12:03

Our pup has two beds.

She has her crate beside back door (lots of covers and a sheet over it for privacy ).

She also has a bed for in the livingroom as I hate her jumping on the couch.

cupcakes · 06/12/2006 12:12

He also has a basket in the sitting room as he's not allowed on the sofa.

yeahinamanger · 06/12/2006 12:26

In the utility with their own baskets but generally they all lump in together !!

Young brown mutt currently asleep and gently farting at my feet at work - have to bring him if no-one at home as he has Houdini tendancies

LittleB · 06/12/2006 12:46

in the corner of the lounge. She's recently taken to sleeping at the bottom of the stairs at night though as she has now started to develop seperation anxiety as she suffers from senile dementia (she's 14). I would have her upstairs on a rug now she's anxious but she'd struggle with the stairs. She seems ok there though, just doesn't want to be in the lounge at night anymore.

ratclare · 06/12/2006 15:24

the 2 seater sofa in the lounge when we are in and an old sleeping bag on the hall floor when we are out

DingDongDraculaOnHigh · 06/12/2006 15:26

Next to the sofa in the living room

Macdog · 06/12/2006 15:30

I've always had my dog's bed in the kitchen.
Until I got a Springer, that is.
He lives in a kennel in the back garden !

Generally a quiet corner suits them. I used the kitchen so that I could shut them in it at night, and floor easy to keep clean

firsttimemama · 06/12/2006 15:41

Our dog has got a cushion/bean bag in the lounge for daytime and her nightime bed is in our spare bedroom.

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 06/12/2006 15:43

In the boiler room beside the kitchen.
And she has 3 10 day old puppies too

MissMistletoe · 06/12/2006 17:50

My Labrador and Golden Retriever usually sleep on the floor in my bedroom, or on the floor on the landing, or occasionally on the sofa.... However, my Retriever has of late become obsessed with the family's beds, and does his best to be in them. Last night I checked in my Sons room, and dd2 on the bottom bunk had been shoved to the end of the bed, while both dogs had made themselves very comfortable up at the pillow end. Retriever went through a phase of chewing the dog beds, however this was when they were shut in the kitchen. I'm going to Makro on Friday as they have RSPCA dog beds coming in which are £20 each in Argos and £10 in Makro, so both dogs will be treated to a new bed and will hopefully vacate ours!

TheDivineLiliLaTigresse · 06/12/2006 17:56

Our Lakie sleeps in the kitchen, he has a lovely bed with a cosy blanket (which he likes to hump from time to time), all his toys, food, water, etc... and is by the radiator
I often find him fast asleep on his back, with his tummy facing the warm radiator

FairyOnTheChristmasTree · 07/12/2006 20:01

My two sleep in the kitchen, both beds by the fire so they're warm in these cold months ahead of us. In their old ages they're incontinent so linoleum floor moppable with any wees or poops that they do and also with their meat when it misses their mouth!

Labradora · 09/12/2006 20:19

Big bed under a counter top in the kitchen so she has her own private snug space.

PrincessPeaHead · 09/12/2006 20:20

utility in their own baskets.
it is so muddy around here in the winter I couldn't have them in the kitchen when they come in from a walk - they need to dry off first

12yeargap · 11/12/2006 18:09

errrm, on our bed, mostly

oxocube · 11/12/2006 20:54

In a corner of the sitting room, by the computer and a big radiator!! But the minute I go to bed, he jumps on the (very old) sofa!! He never goes upstairs though, which is a blessing as he sheds hair constantly!
