My dogs and cat usually get a pet stocking filled with toys and treats, and a couple new toys, and some Christmas dinner which is their fave gift of all . I even wrap their pressies and put them under the tree.

dd1 insists on it - it's her cat officially. Last year it was a fleecy small basket thing. This year I'm hoping we can get away with a tuna cake (which she gets on her birthday).

What is a laser pointer?

poinsettydog · 02/12/2006 19:45

pets are for christmas, not just for life

EdieMcredie · 02/12/2006 21:31

My cats have an advent calandar each-you can scoff all you bloody well like.

And yes we will get them a stocking each and some Tesco finest cat food.

You may think im even crazier if I told you how much my asthmatic cat costs in vets bills

Bovvered. Not.

SherlockLGJ · 02/12/2006 21:52

When there is nobody in the world going to bed hungry.

When every child in this country is going to school with a breakfast inside them.

When they have found a cure for cancer.............then and only then would this thought cross my mind.

poinsettydog · 02/12/2006 21:53

edie, I think you sound so crazy I wouldn't dare scoff

poinsettydog · 02/12/2006 21:54

you're talking about a few quid for those presents edie mentioned, sherlock. I think people are a lot more 'wasteful' than that on a far more regular basis.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 21:56

My cats both have stockings, too.

They both came to us as strays.

SherlockLGJ · 02/12/2006 21:58

Not in this household.

The very thought of spending money on an animal, lovely though they are (we have a wonderful dog) when people are going hungry in the world makes me want to be violently ill. TBH.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 22:00

Why, Sherlock?

They bring a lot of joy to us.

Well, we were going to have Smokey groomed, anyhow, he doesn't let us trim his claws so he usually goes to the vet every few months to have them clipped, b/c otherwise they get infected.

singledadofthree · 02/12/2006 22:00

always get my dog a stocking with lots of chocs n munchies in. he manages to get the squeeky thing out of the squeeky thing toy in about 10 seconds

SherlockLGJ · 02/12/2006 22:03

LGJ

wanders off.......unable to articulate her angst, aggravation, and antipathy to spending on animals as opposed to humans.

poinsettydog · 02/12/2006 22:10

So the threads on spending £100 and upwards on small shildren's christmas presents didn't annoy and upset you? The threads on eating turkey and ham and goose and puddings didn't annoy you? The threads on people buying two or three Christmas trees didn't annoy you?

But spending a fiver on cat treats did?

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 22:11

Aw, my Smokey kitty is soooo cute. He's all curled up here on the couch.

When he was found, wandering Berwick-upon-Tweed, he'd been turfed out and his coat was all full of jaggies and brambles. He had to be shaved off.

SherlockLGJ · 02/12/2006 22:17

poinsettydog

Yes they annoyed me also, but I have been without Broadband for the best part of 3 weeks, so have missed out on most of that nonsense.

I was briefly tempted to buy for for my pet, then I thought again. What do you think ??

WonderCod · 02/12/2006 22:19

FREAKS

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 22:20

Well, what about this:

here

WonderCod · 02/12/2006 22:20

mujm got my cat an advent claendar his paws cant manage the windows

SherlockLGJ · 02/12/2006 22:22

Much better use of money. IMO

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 22:23

well, what about people who spend £30 on Dipthyque candles?

WonderCod · 02/12/2006 22:24

wopt abotu them

poinsettydog · 02/12/2006 22:25

What do I think?

I think there are people in the Western world who have big houses, two cars, new kitchens, microwaves, cleaners, pet walking services, new clothes every month, far far more food than is necessary, have private education, private health, buy pointless Christmas decorations, useless Christmas trees, send cards, wrap presents, buy cushions, buy magazines.... ad finitum.

And I think you have picked on possibly the cheapest pointless extravagance to make som epeople feel guilty.

That's all I think.

expatinscotland · 02/12/2006 22:26

I spent £12 on nail varnish.

B/c I'm worth it .

Dropped £60 on my hair, too.

poinsettydog · 02/12/2006 22:27

And yes, cod's cat post was funny.

EdieMcredie · 02/12/2006 22:33

Sherlock

Sorry but a poor argument IMO. I give money to charity and do a job that is so far beyond rewarding it's unture. I deserve to spend my money how I like.

I can't do any more than is within my control to stop poverty etc.

WonderCod · 02/12/2006 22:34

DOG has anyoen got you one?
