Why do cats....?

...always find a nice rug or some soft furnishings to throw up on?

Despite the fact most of our floors are tiled or wooden she had to find a rug to chuck up on -its the same every time.

What makes it worse is that its a sisal/coir type rug so not easy to get the puke out and clean

Ewwwwwwwwww!!!!

Lovely aren't they

I have been lucky enough most times to hear the retching and then chuck them outside to be sick!!

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 05/10/2006 12:42

I was in the middle of making lunch and it was DS going "Ewwww" that alerted me to it -luckily I got the cat before she headed into the lounge to puke on that rug as well though!

oh my dog does this
grrr

NOMurDErousPLUME · 05/10/2006 12:45

My cat always seems to boak on the stairs in the middle of the night, so you step in it bleary eyed and bare-footed in the morning. Nice.

gigglinggoblin · 05/10/2006 12:45

my cat pooed on my beautiful new bedspread for no reason whatsoever. i nearly strangled the bloody thing

magnolia1 · 05/10/2006 12:47

Oh my older cat hsa pooed on several duvets ovet the past couple of years I just chuck them and buy another. Bloody cat!!!!

NOMurDErousPLUME · 05/10/2006 12:48

What, the cat or the duvets ?

magnolia1 · 05/10/2006 12:52

pmsl!!!!! The duvet would be cheaper to do the cat though

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 05/10/2006 12:55

Does anyone else have real problems clearing up cat vomit? I retch and heave at the thought of it so you can imagine what I'm like at actually clearing it up

My cat is regularly threatened with taxidermy. He is forever being sick on the carpet. He dry heaves a few times first though so we sometimes have time to chase him out of the house first.

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 05/10/2006 13:34

I bet he runs from rug to rug as you chase him though (just in case he can puke on them on the way out)

I tried to grab one of mine the other day when I heard the warning sounds-went to grab him and of course he ran, puking all the way from the lounge, down the hall and then up the stairs.I genuinely has no idea one small animal could puke such vast quantities over such a large area-was definitely the worst yet.

CheesyFeetcomingtoGETyou · 05/10/2006 13:48

lol, Betty, yes it has been known

magnolia1 · 05/10/2006 13:53

Sooooooo pleased it's not just my cat. He normally dos it when he has had biscuits and eaten them too fast!! the whole bloody lot come back up

Flossam · 05/10/2006 13:59

we have a new kitten atm - she recently had a funny tummy in her litter tray - i then stood and watched as she climbed out, sat herself down on the foor and used her front paws to propell herself along the floor in an (unfortunately successful) attempt to clean up her pooey bottom. no vomit as yet though - that might have to wait where it is untill dp can clear it up!

sweetkitty · 05/10/2006 14:01

Oh got one of them too, eats his food too fast them throws it all back up again usually on the carpet.

BettyBatShapedSpaghetti · 05/10/2006 14:06

Flossam -thats known as arse-dragging in this house! I've seen our cat doing this down the garden path (quite comical ). Dogs (other peoples as we don't have any) tend to do it a lot too I've noticed.

I once found a pile of dried cat puke under the spare bed. It must have been there a couple of weeks at least

Flossam · 05/10/2006 19:25

so she is not alone then? i won't care when she is doing it in our garden but the hallway isn't my top choice!

mummydear · 05/10/2006 19:58

I could not clear up cat puke when I was in was suffering from morning sickness I would throw up myself and I wasnot suffering particulry bad with sickness just something I couldn't deal with.

On a serious note my cat was being sick alot of the time and losing weight got him checked out and he had thyroid problems. So jsut watch how often they are being sick espcially if they are getting on a bit ( mine 15yrs).

pointydog · 05/10/2006 20:56

My cat must stagger into every room in the house to barf 'cause it's like hunt the thimble trying to find all the cat pats. (ONly done it when we're out) My cat's sick has no odour at all though so I don't really mind.

hooleymama · 05/10/2006 21:53

apparently the bum dragging thing could be blocked anal glands if its a female cat(nice),

and thanks to an old aquaintance I can never see my cats being sick without thinking about break dancing

fubsy · 05/10/2006 22:14

My 17yr old girl cat is becomming prone to recurrent cystitis accompanied by bum dragging - vet said it was to ease the irritation but that's no consolation when you have to check the kitchen floor for skid marks every morning! Also she's got one of these igloo style litter boxes - I've seen her go inside then hang her arse out of the door so the poo ends up half in and half out!

Gingeme · 05/10/2006 22:44

Bum dragging can also be a sign of worms! My cat was puking in my bedroom the other morning all over our duvet while dh was asleep. Next minute he came flying through the air with my dh shouting f***g cat at the top of his voice. Which my 2 year old ds decided to repeat all day. Luckily we can see the funny side now and I have bought dh a swear box!!!

bottomburp · 05/10/2006 23:08

Fubsy, when a cat hangs arse out of litter tray is an absolute classic sign of arthritis. when a cat poos they 'bear down' and put a lot of force down thru hind legs,if they are arthritic they cannot bear down so poo plops out over edge.it is v.important to use the softest type of litter ie the white dusty stuff.the pellets are too painful for old cats to bear down on.also worth a trip to vets to get pain relief for arthritis pending a kidney check
