Would it be OK to post a hamster to my friend in Ireland?

My friends hamster has just died recently. I was thinking of getting her a new one, but I can't afford to deliver it personally as she lives too far away. I was thinking of putting it in a box and posting it to her (first class, of course!)
Somebody told me I might get into trouble with the RSPCA, even if I padded the box well and made plenty of airholes and left some sausages in the box for the hamster to eat. It would only be in the post for a maximum of 24 hours. Where's the harm in that?

expatinscotland · 11/01/2011 13:41

It's not even half-term yet.

They have hamsters in Ireland. Give her some money for one.

miscanthus · 11/01/2011 13:43

I once posted a small pony. Sadly it got stuck in the letterbox...

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 11/01/2011 13:43

Do hamsters even eat sausages?

poolet · 11/01/2011 13:43

I think that's diabolical.

You should know that hamsters don't eat sausages.

charlieandlola · 11/01/2011 13:44

Thanks for the laugh. Most trolls are tedious, but this is funny.
If by any chance you are a genuine poster, then the answer is No you can't.

poolet · 11/01/2011 13:44

Is that you Jason?

DirtyMartini · 11/01/2011 13:44

Bear?

expatinscotland · 11/01/2011 13:44

How about a post you a bridge. It won't need any food. You can get right under it.

KnowNothing · 11/01/2011 13:44

ROFL

Thank you, you have cheered me up. LOVE the sausages idea...

DramaInPyjamas · 11/01/2011 13:44

As long as it isn't pork sausages, that wouldn't be very safe...

GooseyLoosey · 11/01/2011 13:46

Maybe vegetarian sausages would be better.

yousankmybattleship · 11/01/2011 13:47

You'll need a drink too - otherwise it would be irresponsible.
Do Hamsters like fruit shoots?

WingsTHEangel · 11/01/2011 13:47

Grin I'm sure if you look on e bay you'll find a courier that will transport for you.

helencarpenter · 11/01/2011 13:47

I was thinking of using Linda McCartney vegitarian sausages, but you know what they are like on here.{hmmm}....the slightest little thing and they are all off on one.

maybe stick to you forum addiction instead of going near the post office??? (see thread in chat)

SoupDragon · 11/01/2011 13:49

As an aside, I once got BabyDragon weighed at the baby clinic to see how much it woud cost to post her should I sell her on Ebay. Obviously I didn't tell the HVs this.

WingsTHEangel · 11/01/2011 13:50

Don't send it with a greggs sausage roll I hear the pastry plays isn't good with their digestive system

Fimbo · 11/01/2011 13:52
