Would it be OK to post a hamster to my friend in Ireland?

My friends hamster has just died recently. I was thinking of getting her a new one, but I can't afford to deliver it personally as she lives too far away. I was thinking of putting it in a box and posting it to her (first class, of course!)
Somebody told me I might get into trouble with the RSPCA, even if I padded the box well and made plenty of airholes and left some sausages in the box for the hamster to eat. It would only be in the post for a maximum of 24 hours. Where's the harm in that?

Post office? I'd suggest a psychiatrist.

On a serious note... You are allowed to send livefood via Royal Mail. Just tell them it's a snack for her pet python.

I found this place by accident while Googling. Confused

The real shame is that some people DO post animals through Royal Mail. I have heard of it happening with reptiles afair bit and they arrive dead, it's disgusting. Sad

ha ha, the hamster may eat its way out of the box .........

they gave us a cardboard box to transport him home in and ours tried to escape in the 10mins from petshop
