Today I saw a bull with HUGE testicles

Each testicle was the size of a football. And they were hanging low.

Not being a country girl I was quite . Is this normal for a bull?

DH and I are still shaking our heads on wonder.

Are you sure that it wasn't a cow with udders? Did the testacles have pointy nipple bits, like a big blown up rubber glove?

CaptainKirksNipples · 25/07/2010 21:16

Awesome thread title
I have no idea about your question!

LynetteScavo · 25/07/2010 21:24

I know testicles when I see them!

Definitely a bull. It belongs to a friend. Apparently friends 4yo gave DH an in depth talk on the difference between "dangly bits" on cows and "dangly bits" on bulls.

Love that this is in 'pets'

BeenBeta · 25/07/2010 21:26

Lynette - you must have been looking at the back end of a cow. A bull might have something about the size of tennis balls.

LynetteScavo · 25/07/2010 21:30

I thought it was a pet bull, but DH says he is there to "do the do". (He said this with accompanying actions.) Friends then sell the calfs.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 25/07/2010 21:31

And I was looking at the bull from the front!

OP posts:
BeenBeta · 25/07/2010 21:41

Lynette - you cant see a bulls testicles from the front...but you can see a cows udders.

A case of misidentification I fear.

BeenBeta · 25/07/2010 21:46

Did it have a ring through its nose?

Bulls always have rings through their noses.

LynetteScavo · 25/07/2010 21:53

Oh, believe me, you could see this creatures testicles from the front!

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 25/07/2010 22:00

They were like
this but fuller.

OP posts:
BeenBeta · 25/07/2010 23:03

But did it have a ring?

LynetteScavo · 26/07/2010 09:21

I didn't notice a ring...was to at testicles to notice anything else.

We may go back in a few weeks, so will take a photo and post on profile.

Maybe there is something in this extraordinarily large testicle observation. I saw a sheep yesterday and thought "wow they are large". Maybe there is some strange breeding thing going on in our farm animals.

Lizcat · 26/07/2010 16:06

Okay so I am very sad and have to measure bull's scrotums on a regular basis. The vast majority of bulls have a scrotum circumference of between 20 and 40cm dependent on their age and breed. They do hang much lower in hot weather to try and keep the prevcious sperm from being cooked alive, in the winter they are kept very tight to keep them warm and toasty.
Do get me started on fiddling with bull's penis I do that too.

BeenBeta · 26/07/2010 16:36

Lizcat - do you get any kind of danger money for that or just a vet with a special interest?

stripeyknickersspottysocks · 26/07/2010 16:43

What a job!

LadyBlaBlah · 26/07/2010 21:44

do you have to, erm, pleasure them?

QueeferSutherland · 26/07/2010 21:51

I know that with sheep, the shepherd will leave the ram over winter near some sheep, so they get seriously randy, then release the "tup" into the Sheep field when the bollocks are on the floor He will then boff everything in sight within an afternoon.

They used to, anyway.

Lizcat · 27/07/2010 13:49

Okay so it's for insurance valuations on a bull stud, some of these big boys are worth £10,000 to 20,000 and we have to assess their reproductive capacity for insurance each year to insure them againist loss of use.

LynetteScavo · 27/07/2010 21:51

So, exactly how do you assess the reproductive capacity of a bull?

OP posts:
UnholyMoley · 27/07/2010 21:54

You measure their bollocks, obviously!

LynetteScavo · 27/07/2010 22:34

So that would make this particular bull I saw valuable then?

OP posts:
Lizcat · 28/07/2010 13:26

Reproductive capacity measure scrotum, examine penis, see cover in heat cow and finally assess semen quality - Oh I love my job. Value is based on a PIN value calculate from various attributes.
My boys that I look after are Aberdeen Angus chaps and produce handsome calves that produce 600kg of meat at around 18 months of age, so each youngster nets the farmer a profit of around £400.
Each bull is expected to service around 70 cows per year so that is profit of £28,000 per year with a minimum 5 year working life so minimum £140,000 over working life. These boys are walking gold dust.

LynetteScavo · 28/07/2010 14:07

Blimey! We've always wondered how friends afforded X,Y&Z. Now I know!

I have quite a large garden. I think I may get myself some cattle.
