petition sign here

I'm not sure if this has been shared but for those of you who have been following this case.

From what I have read....
Three boys groomed, lured and attacked (gang raped) two girls aged 14 and 15 across two separate premeditated incidents in Hampshire. It was filmed and shared online
Judge Nicholas Rowland at Southampton Crown Court handed all three youth rehabilitation orders. They went home.
A youth rehabilitation order is not custody. It is not detention.
It means supervised activities in the community.
Those boys slept in their own beds that night.
While two children began the process of trying to rebuild their lives.

Please sign it if you feel angered by the judge's sentencing or lack of.

Article here for those who haven't followed it.

Just been announced that Court of Appeal is reviewing the case, so the petition isn't needed right now.
But thank you. Obviously this verdict should not stand.

Thanks @TemporarilyCantDoMyself

I think the petition sends a clear message of support for the victims and their families as well as a showing of hands towards the judge and his unacceptable sentencing.

I signed anyway.

There was a thread last week with links to how you lodge a complaint against an unduly lenient sentence.

I submitted that last week along with many others on the thread.

Here's the link if you are interested in more details

Edited

Thanks @BlueMum16 I did sign that one too.

This one is to actually investigate the judge.

I think the more noise about this the better, it's about time 51% of the population were taken seriously and cared about.

Signed. The judge absolutely should be investigated on past sentences also.

Violence against women and girls matters.

MulberryFresser · 29/05/2026 06:16

Is there some sort of judiciary conduct authority? This judge is going senile.

Larrythecatforpm · 29/05/2026 07:11

The judge should be sacked for the sentences he gave, clearly not all with it.

Tiddlywinks63 · 29/05/2026 07:39

Judge Nicholas Rowland is a disgrace to the country and the judiciary. No wonder many people have little or no confidence in the justice system here.

CatRescueNeeded · 29/05/2026 08:23

Signed and bumping this

The sentence itself is going to the court of appeal. This petition is to hold the judge himself to account

Agree with this.

I think the sentence is appalling and it’s rightfully being reviewed but having a petition is crass and unnecessary. Our criminal justice system isn’t run based on public opinion.

Nowait · 29/05/2026 09:49

Wasn’t there another case recently where a young girl was taken and raped behind a bush by two boys and they also filmed it and her friend was screaming for help? Those boys were cleared of any wrongdoing. Why isn’t this case being looked at again? I was horrified - that poor girl!

If the criminal justice system doesn’t protect the public and victims then it is not fit for purpose and the worry is that if it’s not seen as fair people will take the law into their own hands.

Sentences need to be appropriate according to the law and if no custodial sentences are giving when there is a cut and dry guilty verdict of multiple premeditated gang rapes that were filmed and distributed by the perpetrators then the system is unreasonable.

Rape within marriage was legal until the 1990's.

How do you think changes happen in the law?

Do you think the law is fit for purpose in all circumstances?

OP posts:

How feminists campaigned to get rape in marriage made illegal.

Rape in marriage law change.

A key influence was the 20 years’ work of the feminist movement prior to this decision. Grassroots organisations like Women Against Rape (WAR), founded in 1976, were instrumental as they publicly criticised the view that marital rape was not rape with slogans such as ‘rape, like charity, begins at home’. As Williams acknowledged, the frustration from feminists was that if marital rape was taken more seriously earlier, it would have conveyed a strong message that all rape is to be taken seriously, giving women more confidence to come forward.

Initially, the feminist movement had to influence society as women needed to realise that marital rape was a crime that should be reported. The impact of the feminist movement on reporting was evident as it increased from 2,417 cases in 1987 to 4,589 in 1993. However, the conviction rates were so low, declining from 19-11% from 1987 to 1993, so the real change for women could only happen once law and politics embraced the feminist movement.

Ah I think I got it wrong?! They said that the boys were acquitted because it was consensual now forgive me but surely at this age the consent itself should have been challenged? www.rochdaletimes.co.uk/three-boys-cleared-of-raping-girl-in-bushes/
