Scary government EHCP changes and petition

Onceuponatimethen · 22/05/2025 22:24

Hopefully all of us have already signed the petition which has been started by Special Needs Jungle to ask the government not to cut SEN support for children. There have been leaked suggestions that they are planning to remove all EHCPs in mainstream education. If anyone hasn’t signed yet and wants to then the link is here https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/711021

I’m glad we got our ehcp and I fought to get ds into a sen school. The goverment are disgusting !!
Dh does contract work for goverment buildings including loads of schools, he has been saying for a while now lots of schools round Birmingham are having sen units built. Maybe the goverment are planning to do this in every school?!

Onceuponatimethen · 08/06/2025 08:21

@theclampits any changes to EHCPs should definitely only happen once major steps have been taken to improve provision. But as with PIP and winter fuel it seems the approach is just cut money.

I’m beginning to think the Tories would have been a better bet. This is utterly revolting

Onceuponatimethen · 08/06/2025 10:18

SmotheringMonday · 11/06/2025 19:31

What exactly are the proposed changes, does anybody know?

Vinvertebrate · 11/06/2025 19:34

Signed and shared with my SEN mum group.

Onceuponatimethen · 11/06/2025 20:07

@SmotheringMonday SN Jungle has a report. Likely no EHCPs outside special schools, no enforceable legal rights to SEND support in mainstream schools. Today there was a report that SENDIST have been told the tribunal is going to be abolished.

Ok, but what are they replacing it with? I am open to listening to the proposals before protesting, as the way things are is unsustainable. But any replacement has to be protective and supportive.

I will take a look at the report, thanks.

Onceuponatimethen · 11/06/2025 20:21

@SmotheringMonday likely to be duties on schools, no legal right to appeal though.

There are no full proposals yet.

But it seems very unlikely currently that parents will be left with enforceable rights for children which given how broken the current system is leaves me with no confidence anything effective will be provided.
