Currently GP surgeries can use £1.4 billion for 2023/24 to fund up to 17 roles to help patients... as long as they are not practice nurses or GPs. Yes, you did just read that. The fund being used to finance roles to help with a shortage of GPs and practices nurses cannot be used to reduce that shortage.

Many surgeries are having to rely on ARRS funding to employ staff. I, and many other GPs believe practice nurses, salaried GPs and locum GPs should be added to this list of 17 roles. Please sign this petition if you agree:

Petition: Allow ARRS funding to be used for practice nurses and GPs

The Additional Roles Reimbursement Scheme (ARRS) has made available to GP practices £1,412 million in 2023/24 to employ people in 17 new roles. We would like GP practices to also be able to use this money to pay for practice nurses, salaried GPs and lo...

I had no idea there weren’t enough posts in some areas. We have a shortage of GPs and nurses up here. Won’t opening up the funding discourage people from moving to areas where there are plenty of roles being advertised?

I think it’s quite unreasonable and unrealistic to ask people to consider moving areas of the country for jobs, when they may well be settled house/schools/elderly relatives, just because the Government has decided to put this ridiculous rule in place.

GP training schemes has incentives to move to understaffed areas with relocation assistance, in the hope that trainees remain in that area.
The major issue is now, there are literally no jobs in the north west, what will those trainees look forward to after hundreds and thousands in student loans and the prospect of unemployment after exams that cost thousands, no to mention the pause in living life for the extensive periods of study.

Signed

Thanks OP, no one ever seems to believe that funding allocation is an issue and just want to throw more money at the problems.

Just put of interest, the GPs who can't get work, can they get private work?

Thank you to all those who have signed and shared the petition which has gained over 2000 signatures in less than a fortnight. Hopefully we can put an end to this financial discrimination against nurses and doctors.

When you try to share this petition with friends and family they will require a lot of time and explanation before they understand its significance. People complain about not being able to see a doctor or nurse any more, but are reluctant to spare a minute to do something about it. But if we all help a few people understand... and they help a few others...

Thank you to the 5000+ people who have signed the petition so far, but we need 100,000 to ensure the petition is discussed in parliament. Please help keep GPs and practice nurses in General Practice by signing and sharing it.

If you google 'ARRS petition' you will find lots of support such as:
The GP magazine Pulse https://www.pulsetoday.co.uk/news/workforce/thousands-sign-petition-asking-for-gps-to-be-included-in-arrs/

The magazine for general practice nurses, Nursing in Practice

Don't let 'new ways of working' lead to more GP redundancies.
