My husband lost his life. Could I ask for your help?

My husband loved football, I am a Manc and love Man City but he was an avid LCFC suporter. He went all over the place to watch them and started many of chants when he was watching the games. He would often come home with destroyed vocal chords. City was everything to him but he also had a soft spot for my team too 💙

However, I recently lost my husband through a gambling addiction. He was a happy man but was sucked into a hole after being given 'free bets' which ultimately cost him his life. I have made a video that explains more here.

I have set up a petition asking the government to ban 'free bets'. This is where I am asking for your support. Could you sign and possibly share it.

Addiction is heartbreaking. Your husband must have been in so much mental pain, especially towards the end. I'm sorry this has happened to you, to him, and to your families. Thanks

Since the internet the gambling industry has really gone all out nasty.

I used to work in betting shops.

They had set hours, you couldn't gamble constantly.

There were lots of regulars and it was quite friendly. So there was a social aspect as well and regulars made friends. I'm sure they talked about overspending etc.

We would not take a large bet off someone who was really drunk.

I mean yes it was still addictive and people messed their lives up but there were some things that constrained them.

What I really really hate is that they advertise hard at night. When people are watching telly often because drunk/depressed/ high etc. IMO there will be a fairly high number of people watching at eg 2am who are not in the most sensible state iyswim.

They know that and they fire these free bet join now ads out. It should NOT be allowed.

I started off matched betting which uses the free bets to legitimately make money. Got encouraged to try the casino offers and became addicted to slots. My wake up call was the day that I checked my account to see I'd put almost £50k through them in a few hours, and it didn't even feel like real money. I've since self-banned all my accounts. It's so easy for it to take hold of you.
