@CraftyGin

It’s not uncommon to have a works canteen subsidised.
Those kinds of canteens are subsidised by the company, not taxpayers.
thetrees · 23/10/2020 17:02

Signed.

I wasn't that bothered about the subsidised food but am so furious about the way they behaved yesterday

ChaChaCha2012 · 23/10/2020 17:03

@1Morewineplease The petition is current, the fact check is older but still accurate. Apt username Wink

Zilla1 · 23/10/2020 17:04

Shouldn't the MP's parents pay for their meals? Won't the MPs just spend the money that should be spent on their food for cigarettes, alcohol or drugs?

They even have the nerve to have iphones and big tvs.

It is outrageous that this survived the expenses scandal and austerity. Unfortunately I don't think linking it to fsm will see it abolished but it absolutely should be reviewed as part of an overall review of government efficiency.

Out of interest, would meals taken in the House be claimed on expenses? I.e. if they were more expensive, would we pay anyway?

BlackeyedSusan · 23/10/2020 17:08

alcohol probably. though what's his name said they were shutting the bars in solidarity with constituents.

meow1989 · 23/10/2020 17:08

@poshme thabk you, I stand corrected on that one then.

Terrible that the inter-generational claimant culture gets embedded when they ensnare/employ family members in their lifestyle. What chance do their partners and children have?

tinkywinkyshandbag · 23/10/2020 17:16

Signed

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 23/10/2020 17:17

Signed & shared.

AlexCabot · 23/10/2020 17:21

My MP is a paediatrician and voted against. How the fuck can she do a job based on the welfare of children and still let some go hungry?

Oh, I know. She's a cunt.

BackforGood · 23/10/2020 17:23

I'd signed earlier, but happy to give this thread another tiny little bump in case others haven't seen it.

Zilla1 · 23/10/2020 17:32

Alex,

might be interesting how much total public subsidy she and her family receives for MP, salary, allowances, any second home?, the farm single payment subsidy for her husband? and any salary if she employs family members in her office?

Zilla1 · 23/10/2020 17:35

Plus if she works any sessions in the NHS?

Storyoftonight · 23/10/2020 17:35

@Awwlookatmybabyspider

Signed and shared. Some may say The don’t breed what you can’t feed arse holes have got a point. However they can’t have the double standards because they’re plummed gobbed tossers, and People call benefit claimants entitled Angry
What a horrific phrase.
canigooutyet · 23/10/2020 17:36

And remember during lockdown they wanted to scrap the free school meal vouchers.

LilyMumsnet · 23/10/2020 17:36

Hi OP,

We're just moving this over to our petitions topic. Flowers

thedaytodayyesterday · 23/10/2020 17:42

Signed and bumping this post.

My friend works in a charity providing food for those children who need it. She has written to her mp who voted against the free school meals to come to her work during Christmas and tell the children himself that there will be no food for them, and that he is the reason why. I’m sure he’ll be on the next train up.

She and others like her will be the ones who have to tell the children there isn’t any food for them, not the mps.

How you can be the mp of a deprived northern area and vote against this is beyond me.

meow1989 · 23/10/2020 17:44

@lilymumsnet BlushI didnt know there was a petitions section! Thank you.

Zilla She works for the NHS but voted against the pay rise for nurses. Her voting record makes JRM look like a chilled out leftie hippy.

lanbro · 23/10/2020 17:53

Signed...am disgusted

My local primary has 62% FSM, in just a few hours today I've had £115 donated by local residents, have over £200 that's been raised by a local lady selling handmade trinkets at no profit and I'm off shopping tomorrow to make food parcels that our local councillor will deliver to those most in need. So a small business, not having the best year, and local residents who are mainly very low income are paying for what these specimens wouldn't Angry

Devlesko · 23/10/2020 17:56

Of course we do, they are privileged benefit scroungers.
I can't believe people are naive enough to think we are equal or an equal society.
All the petitions in the world won't change this Grin
Wake up, there's nothing you can do to change it.
