To ask you to sign this petition to help protect YouTube families

This needs to get 100k signatures to be debated in parliament. It's to help protect people like the saconejollys, Mrs meldrum and part time working Mummy. Trolls leave nasty comments on their videos that criticise everything from their looks to how good of parents they are.

You wouldn't get away with saying these things to people at work so the law needs to catch up to help protect YouTube and Instagram people that do it for a job.

Laws regarding harassment are already in place. Am I right in thinking many of these families are overseas eg American? How would British legislation protect them?

No it doesnt, the phrase is to be considered for debate and it wont be considered at all, Parliament has more important things to contend with at the moment

Of course it's serious, if you told someone at work their teeth look like jaws you would get reprimanded. People are telling ptwm this and nothing happens.

It's a tricky situation.

Threats of harm, intimidation, harassment, etc absolutely need to be tackled with the full force of the law but people giving their opinions on the subject of whatever content is being posted is another matter entirely. If someone chooses to put themselves out there in such a frank way and publically share large chunks of their personal life and choices they've made then they need to accept that people will have opinions. They're inviting comment and it's the nature of the beast that some of those comments will be negative.

Is this a joke? So these people deliberately (and often rather shamelessly) put their lives on display (and the lives of their children who can’t consent!) in order to make money, and you want us all to sign a petition so that people can only say nice things about them and what they post?! This is madness. If they don’t want the opinions of the general public then they should stop filming their lives and putting it all over the internet for all to see. You can’t seriously expect people to sign a petition saying that only nice things can be said 😂

I thought this was a petition to protect their children from exploitation. I really feel for their children having their lives played out on social media. Some of the things they share about their children is just too much, what happened to their children’s right to privacy? I’ll sign a petition about that no problem.

Laws are already in place to prevent harassment and threats of violence.

Beyond that if you don't want your parenting to be criticised, don't create a YouTube channel about it.

But the law wouldn’t get involved. Don’t you think our already stretched police forces have enough to be getting on with? I don’t know who any of those people are but if they’ve plastered their lives on social media they will have to take the bad with the good.

I was thinking this was going to be a petition to protect children from their parents who document their every minute of their life. Sadly not.

Turns out it's a petition to about people criticising or being mean to people who choose to broadcast their lives like this for likes and attention.

Harassment and threats are already covered by the law. If people aren't open to public comments or comments that are negative they should consider it before broadcasting their lives.

I feel for the children.

No I won't sign it. If people decide they want to play out their entire lives online so that they make a fortune from advertising and freebies, at the expense of their privacy (and their childrens') then that is the risk they take. They've made their bed, they can lie in it.

With YouTube there used to be the option of disabling comments if still there they could always stop people leaving comments, but i guess that wouldn't give them the much craved clicks and views.

But they don't really work with online accounts and how they work now.

Constantly insulting someone's parenting and looks is hateful but not protected by law.

It’s obviously not kind behaviour and it would be better if people didn’t do it. Parenting should not be a protected characteristic
