Please please please sign and share this.

Our children deserve adequately funded schools with fairly paid staff.

Thank you.

Signed and shared on FB. Giving it a bump for you too as it's so important. Here's a clicky link (hopefully!):

Signed and shared too - I feel really strongly about this.

Schools need to reduce the number of completely unnecessary and grossly overpaid managers. If your child’s school is struggling with its budget, ask the Head how many members of staff are on the ‘senior leadership team’ and how much actual teaching they do.

My primary school doesn’t. Everything has been cut to the bone.

Sirzy · 08/02/2019 21:38

In ds school the only member of the smt who doesn’t teach is the head. They managed a year of the senco being out of class full time but then she had to go back to 50/50

The issue with funding certainly doesn’t come from the smt being out of class

SmileEachDay · 08/02/2019 21:44

Our Head now teaches 6 lessons a week.

We can’t afford to buy in services for students struggling with SEMH and as of this year we no longer have a school counsellor and barely any pastoral support.
Children are being completely failed.

Youmadorwhat · 08/02/2019 21:44

What some UK Schools could do is get rid of is school kitchens to run (and the kitchen staff included) and then let the children bring in packed lunches or provide packed lunches dropped off every morning by an outsourced company! It might free up some money possibly

squeezysparklyballs · 08/02/2019 21:49

Nah, only decent meal some kids get.

I signed this awhile ago. We could all just stop voting Tory instead.

" If your child’s school is struggling with its budget, ask the Head how many members of staff are on the ‘senior leadership team’ and how much actual teaching they do."

All of our SLT teach. The deputy head teaches 50% of the week. Leavers have not been replaced. TAs about to go (already cut to the bone). No money for supply staff to cover illness or CPD. Limits on copying, printing and stationery. It's as bad as I've ever seen it. Teachers are struggling but it really is the kids who ultimately suffer - bigger classes, less support, fewer interventions, demoralised staff, things wearing out or breaking and not being repaired/replaced.

KateGrey · 08/02/2019 21:51

Our school has a director for school improvement. It’s a fucking primary school. We are really top heavy in SLT and are raising money for iPads 😕 There are some schools massively struggling and it’s heartbreaking. Especially as Sen funding is also cut to the bone.

CloudyTuesday · 08/02/2019 21:54

I wouldn't support cutting school lunches. For many, it's their only proper meal. And actually, in a wealthy country like the uk, it really would be bloody shameful to admit that we can't afford to feed hungry kids.

Youmadorwhat · 08/02/2019 21:58

What about just having free lunches to those in deprived areas then?? Somethings got to give!?

Rainsunshine · 08/02/2019 22:01

Less faffing with school logos and flashy websites that nobody asked for, more money spent on Sen. Some school miss the mark massively on what they spend their money on Sad

squeezysparklyballs · 08/02/2019 22:02

No it doesn't. Nothing has to give.

We need to fund schools properly and stop this shitty race to the bottom. It's pathetic.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 08/02/2019 22:04

There are deprived kids in every area. Whatever the problems are, school lunches shouldn't be the thing to go!! It's the only proper meal some kids get!

squeezysparklyballs · 08/02/2019 22:06

And outsourcing is usually more expensive- how do you think those companies make a profit?

ATOS sarnie, anyone?

RandomMess · 08/02/2019 22:10

How can some people be so unaware that school funding has been massively cut in recent years!
No allowance for increased number of pupils in stars
No allowance for inflation factor in stats
Oh and the biggie they now include university fee funding in the education funding stats

Weetabixandshreddies · 08/02/2019 22:11

The government needs to adequately fund SEND provision rather than expecting schools to fund the first £6000. They should also properly fund teachers pay rises. There's no room to make cuts in most schools now - they cut to the bone a ling time ago.

ChrisjenAvasarala · 08/02/2019 22:12

Squeezy, outsourcing is cheaper in most cases. Those companies make so many meals that they can still charge less than what the school would spend doing it themselves. The larger quantity gives them more buying power, bigger discounts, more streamlined production. It's often cheaper to outsource.

Chosennone · 08/02/2019 22:32

Some schools Academies do sometimes have a huge Senior Team on inflated salaries. One chain not far from me has and a lot of them don't teach. The school i work in had a strong budget thanks to a very financially savvy head. We have then relied on natural wastage andhave ot replaced SLT as they've moved on/retired. A number of support staff havent been replaced and that affexts many students directly.
The sad thing is schools are doing more with less. Schools are doing thw hibs of cahms, social care and vsrious other overqorkwd underfunded agencies.

Youmadorwhat · 08/02/2019 22:38

@squeezysparklyballs that is exactly how it works here in Ireland, parents send in their children with Packed lunch!! I work in a school that is in a “deprived area” and a company drops off the lunches every morning (but still most kids actually also have a packed lunch too). I also worked in the uk and the amount of wastage that happens with school lunches is absolutely shocking!!!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 08/02/2019 22:40

Our school is two form entry. Our HT is the only non-teaching member of staff. The DH teaches and only gets their PPA time, no management time and an hour of management time. The Anco (Senco) used to be full time off timetable and county bought in additional provision where needed. Now money has been devolved to school, then cut and cut again so that in a school of 16 classes, they have one day they aren't in their own class teaching to fullfill their role. Ratios for classroom assistants have been cut in foundation phase classes and PPA teachers have been replaced by HLTAs and now TAs who are covering classes regularly when they never went into that job to do it.

JennyOnAPlate · 08/02/2019 22:44

As a parent and a Governor at a primary school this makes me so very angry. Our children are being failed and it's an absolute disgrace.

monkeysox · 09/02/2019 01:31

Secondary schools with no teaching assistants. Only a few hltas that are also given timetabled lessons and usec for cover. So wrong
