I agree that it would be the wrong time to rebrand. But neither of those savings would touch the sides of the budget deficit in most schools now. All the painless cuts have already been made.

Having worked with many outsourced, private companies taking over state functions, what generally happens is that they cut corners.

You also lose ultimate control over the service which means that even if it starts out good, it's gradually chipped away to the bare bones on the contract and there is sod all you can do about it.

I work in a school which is oversubscribed and in an area of deprivation.

We are losing all but one of our wonderful support staff thanks to a static, inadequate budget.

Our children will suffer. Our staff will suffer. The budget continues to be completely inadequate. What do we cut next?

I'm Head of school in a mid sized primary. We used to have a SENCO/DSL but when she left, I had to cover her job myself, and I teach 2 days a week, and we've had to cut one teacher so class sizes in KS2 are mid 30s. There is nothing else we can cut!

Ours has a lot of expensive SLTs who don’t teach. I agree SEN needs to be better funded and if school didn’t have to pay the first 6k maybe more schools wouldn’t put off/get rid of children with Sen. Academies I’m not a huge fan. I’m an accountant and ran for governors against a complete unknown. I heard it on the quiet from someone in admin they didn’t want me because I wouldn’t say yes to the head all the time (I’m very supportive of the school but head is massively controlling and I’m very pro Sen, she’s not). So they went with the other person despite the votes going my way.

They won’t be just kicking back with a drink. Teaching isn’t the only thing that schools have to do. Unfortunately.
