Oliver’s tragic death

Hi, I’m hoping you can help me. My son Oliver died as a result of NHS staff not having autism and learning disability training. I’m campaigning to make autism training compulsory for NHS staff so that there isn’t any further needless deaths. Could I please put a post on your group promoting my petition? I believe it is relevant to the members of your group and I’d really appreciate your support in helping to get to 100,000 signatures so that the Government will debate it. We currently have almost 30,000 signatures Many thanks in advance. petition.parliament.uk/petitions/221033 — with Oliver McGowan.

I have just read through the article and found it so upsetting, that neither your son or yourselves were listened to relating to his own medical experience.
I am astonished that doctors can prescribe and administer drugs to a patient despite them refusing them in a competent and clear way

Thankyou so much to all of you for your kindness and support. My husband and I plus our two other children are in deep shock. We can’t believe this has happened to our son. Oliver was incredibly able, very fit and healthy. I only brought him into hospital because he was having prolonged partial seizures. He was fully conscious and was able to say what he wanted. He also had capacity.

Could all members please sign Oliver’s petition. He was a teenager training to be a Paralympian he was fit healthy and strong yet he is dead purely due to ignorance of his high functioning autism. We can’t ignore the fact that our doctors and nurses are not trained in autism and learning disability awareness. They don’t know what reasonable adjustments are. Please do this for Oliver and his memory

I work with children with Autism. I have completed a two day training through Education, years ago. It would be ideal. I have seen courses through our local Uni aimed at medical staff also offered to others. Unfortunately I couldn't go due to timing. It should be part of all training.
What an arrogant doctor. Surely his medical records should show the adverse reaction. However I had a phone consultation with a doctor and the follow up letter from his consultant was completely incorrect. It was about my allergies!
The fact that you were not listened to is appalling.
