I got a bit of Brexit burnout over the summer, having had 12 months of struggling with the direction UK is headed in. Now we are back to it again, we get an almost daily drip feed of bad news on Brexit, I am ready to fight it again. The new tenner is worth £8.60, car companies are threatening to leave UK, John Lewis profits down and we haven't even Brexited yet.
If, in March 19, we're presented with a shoddy deal and people are regretting their Vote for Brexit, would it not be wise to ask the country again the best way forward to ensure we give our children the future they deserve?
If you agree, please sign and share as widely as you can. This petition is doing well.

FFS sake not another one. We are leaving the EU, get over it already.

19lottie82 · 15/09/2017 17:32

I voted remain, but the votes been taken.
If we overrule a public vote, what's the point in democracy?

AllTheWittyNamesAreGone · 15/09/2017 17:32

No we had our vote and that's that.
I voted to stay but we didn't win. End of

fairgame84 · 15/09/2017 17:37

YANBU
I voted remain but the majority didn't. You might not like the way the country is headed but neither did the majority of people when they voted to leave.
The decision was made we can't keep petitioning for referendums until everyone is happy with the result because that will never happen, there will always be people that are not happy.

Niamer · 15/09/2017 17:40

Thank you for the speedy responses.
If we overrule a public vote, what's the point in democracy?

Firstly I would argue that the referendum was not democratic given the disenfranchisement of key groups of voters and the misinformation.

Secondly democracy involves peaceful protest and I believe it is utterly appropriate to change our minds should this direction not work out how people hoped.

As Ian Dunt remarked - are all decisions frozen in time now? Should we ban divorce?

OP posts:
Niamer · 15/09/2017 17:43

Fairgame84 what if we have made a decision that leaves nobody (apart from rich tax dodgers happy)?

OP posts:
KoolKoala07 · 15/09/2017 17:47

Really?! Isn't it about time the decision was accepted!

ChasedByBees · 15/09/2017 17:48

I'm with you OP.

scrabbler3 · 15/09/2017 17:49

I think that it's time to accept it and work towards the best outcome.

Niamer · 15/09/2017 17:50

Really?! Isn't it about time the decision was accepted!

Why? Do you accept being lied to usually? Are you happy that everything is a lot dearer as a result of those lies?

OP posts:
isadoradancing123 · 15/09/2017 17:52

No is a complete sentence!

ambereeree · 15/09/2017 17:52

Pound is up today. Not all bad news eh? I voted to remain but the decision has been made and it should be accepted.

alltouchedout · 15/09/2017 17:52

I signed it already. I'm glad to see it's doing well.

Orchestramum · 15/09/2017 17:52

"It was not democratic" = I don't like the results. Why people are so entitled these days? So if Remain wins this time do we get to vote again?

Niamer · 15/09/2017 17:52

I think that it's time to accept it and work towards the best outcome

How do I work towards the best outcome please?

orchestramum you're right, I didn't like the result, but I explained earlier in the thread why it was not democratic.

EamonnWright · 15/09/2017 17:55

John Lewis' profits are down due to restructuring yet you talk about misinformation.

I voted to remain btw.

WorriedMutha · 15/09/2017 17:56

I signed this petition yesterday. I'm with you all the way OP.

AntiHop · 15/09/2017 18:01

I agree with you op. Brexit is going to be an economic disaster for the UK. The electorate were clearly lied to. If brexit goes ahead, we'll all suffer and it will be the poorest who are hit the hardest.

It is really clear that staying in the EU is in the best interests of this country. But there were so many lies told about the EU. The only point of this referendum was because the tories were trying to end the divisions in their party. They have put the interests of their party over the interests of our country.

Niamer · 15/09/2017 18:01

eammonwright thank you, I had missed the bit about restructuring, but John Lewis boss pretty pessimistic about Brexit too.

My understanding is that its not a rerun designed to stop bexit

Just to let the public (rightly or wrongly) have a say on the final deal

DaisyBelle70 · 15/09/2017 18:03

It's certainly the 'European way' to keep re-running referenda until you get the answer you want, so in that respect YANBU.

In Dollar terms, your pre-referendum tenner is currently worth about 9.38, and that fall is largely due to the interest rate cut which happened after the referendum, so it's not clear that with your 8.60 stuff you can be trusted not to exaggerate to suit your campaign.

As for the rest of it, could there be a more Mumsnet proxy for the financial health of the country than John Lewis' profits?

GaryBarlowsTaxReturn · 15/09/2017 18:05

I don't really understand how anyone can disagree with this. It's really important that the people get a say in how Brexit goes forward. Why are posters so against that?

I've signed it OP. We need to ensure the best deal is reached and that the government is held accountable.

pennysnow · 15/09/2017 18:08

The LEAVE side didn't come out with any more bollocks than the REMAIN side.

The EU are so bitter and angry that we are leaving, for one reason ONLY. The money they will lose from us. They have outlived their usefulness for us, and have fast gone from a useful and reasonable business partner and friend, to a spiteful, bitter controlling bully who punishes people who don't step in line. If this happened in a job or a marriage, you would cut your losses and move on.

That is what WE are doing.

We will be better off our of the EU, there is not a SINGLE reason to stay in it, and I agree with previous posters; you need to suck it up, coz we're leaving!

I can only surmise that you are either a business who benefits from being in the EU, and that's why you're stamping your feet, OR you are a millennial who is terrified of change, and the perceived isolationism.

Many people 35 (and under,) are rather clueless about the EU, and they have no IDEA how controlling the are, and how much money they take from us. Some I know even think we will never be able to travel to EUROPE again! But they will soon learn how wrong they are about the EU, and that we are better off out of the EU. And so will you @Niamer
