My petition:

Charge non-resident parents who evade child support payments with child neglect.

Current legislation does not recognise non-payment of child support as neglect. After a year of non-compliance separate criminal charges should be brought against such non-resident parents for child neglect. Resident parents should also be able to prosecute non-compliant NRP for financial abuse.

Figures from 2011 indicate that 95.2% of parents who approached the Child Support Agency in order to access their legal entitlement for child maintenance were female. The failure to collect rates are astonishing. It is therefore a gender inequality issue. This social injustice needs to be urgently addressed. The far reaching repercussions have to be legally recognised for both the parent with care and the child/ren when one parent fails to support their child/ren. It is neglect and abuse.

Also if NRPs choose to evade the system , when it has been proven they are able to contribute, they could be prosecuted separately outside of the agency.

In answer to your questions- by trying to get the petition through and raise the issue on a national level.

It is way overdue. Other countries manage it so much better so it is not beyond our skills. We currently have a toothless system that needs a radical overhaul.

The point of the petition is to have a debate on the subject. If anything is changed then there will be government consultations op and her MP will be involved with. The public will be given opportunity too. It's not down to op to have the answers.

Now I want this debated in media and parliament. I want to help op move this forward not knock her down at the beginning.

This is a good article explaining how the system is 'worked' by some individuals.

I would like to see a situation tbh where if it is proven that the NRP hasn't paid AND doesn't commit to regularly seeing the children they lose parental responsibility
I have to ask permission to take my children on holiday from a man who has not paid a penny for them in nine years and not seen them in four years and once in the two years before that.

CreviceImp · 02/06/2016 23:42

I totally agree sockrage. What an arse.
