Hi Eveyone

I've had a very long running thread on here under a different name about my battle to get dds school to allow girls wear trousers. I have recently appeared on This Morning Itv to debate this, and there has been lots of press activity on the matter. A group of us have formed a pressure group on Facebook, trying to collaborate our efforts. If you support this campaign could you please add yourself to the group, as it's by having numbers we become powerful. There are links to all the press on there too. Thanks all www.facebook.com/groups/491384444377946/

I'm with you entirely. And joined on FB too.

I have no issue with a gender neutral policy that means boys can wear skirts, although I seriously doubt that many boys would avail themselves of that opportunity because it is an item of clothing traditional for women only, which, of course, for many would make it demeaning for men to wear it.

But a rule that says that girls have to wear skirts is deeply sexist. There is just no way around that. Trousers are a very conventional item of clothing for women and girls and have been for a long time. What is the rationale for requiring girls to wear skirts? There is no way to articulate an answer that is not sexist.

Great campaign. Girls must have the right to choose if they want to wear skirts or trousers. Both girls and boys must learn that girls and women have the right to do everything what the other gender does. Enforcing skirts and the ideas around (being 'feminine', 'cute', etc) are pernicious. Of course girls should be able to wear trousers or shorts to school. I can't believe I have even had to type that. It's 2015 FFS!!

I also agree that boys should be able to wear skirts/dresses to school. It's not difficult, just have a list of approved clothes for children.

StuffEverywhere · 22/03/2016 21:57

Like others I'm miffed that this is still an issue in 2016! It's just bizarre.

I had to wear a horrendous pinafore dress and tights to school in 80s and thought that this kind of cruelty to children was now firmly in the past. Apparently not.

I've joined, I have no children and didn't even go to school in the UK. But I remember you from your previous threads and I fully support you, and admire your perseverance! It should not be an issue at all, sadly it still is. Good luck.

trousersforall - I was following your thread all the way through and I am also following your facebook and twitter. I have been battling against the skirts-only uniform for girls for a year, to no avail. I talked to headmaster, I wrote to governors. Nothing. Words fail me.

Is it possible to get in touch with you directly to see if we can help each other? At this stage, now that I tried all reasonable avenues to approach the issue with the school directly, I would be happy to step up the game and be actively involved in the public campaign.

Thanks for everything that you've done, it gives the rest of us a glimmer of hope.
