WTF is a draw? It's a drawer!

We are packing to move house. DH has written 'kitchen draw' on some of the boxes.

Surely this is wrong? It's a drawer.

(this is just one of many irritations this week and I think the stress of the move is taking it's toll on me)

At last, lots of people on here call them draws, I was beginning to think it was me that was wrong calling them drawers.

There are generally lots of draws on Ebay.

It's fine to say 'draw' but not to write it that way.

That said, my (PhD-educated, usually good at spelling) DP wrote 'and adult' instead of 'an adult' last night. I think he was tired and distracted and perhaps his brain was already at 'adult' when his pen was still at 'an'.

Also, is stall another word for stool?? There are a fair number of "bar stalls" on Ebay too.

When I worked in housing a (degree educated) colleague used to write "chester draws" on every inventory she wrote.

I used to bite my tongue but secretly wanted to scream at her "its a fecking chest of drawers".

ND we must know the same people!
I know a Police Officer who wrote 'chester drawers' in a statement!!

Are you sure chester isn't a posh make of furniture, so draws was the only bit she got wrong?
Of course if she was doing that on "ikea draws" then maybe not!

No, believe me, the quality of furniture in that housing project wasn't even up to Ikea standards....unless "chester" is the polite way of saying "cheap nasty drawers that will fall apart the first time someone uses them/uses them as a weapon/sets fire to them/pushes a stoned mate into them" (it was a rough housing project )

Shows that e-bay is populated by a load of ignorant bar stewards then, no?

I like butterbeerandlemon's definitions of stuff vs miscellaneous.

Spot on.

I always thought it was a posh English thing to say/write draws instead of drawers [confused forriner emoticon]
