What do all you pedants do in RL?

I'm just idly wondering where all you pedants are in RL since I never seem to meet any pedants outside of MN . Am I right in thinking that there are quite a few proof readers and editors inhabiting pedants' corner? Any linguists or translators? I'm just being nosy really.

I work for a regulatory body and we have our own set of rules for letter writing etc.
However, I have been an apostrophe fiend since early secondary school.

Some would say I'm the anti-pedant! I no longer do language for a living, but I've got a PhD in English Language, and used to work on the history of English... Mostly I don't miss it, but just lately I've been enjoying debating it (and pissing off all the pedants in the process)

My job does involve a fair amount of writing, but pedantry isn't a qualification really.

Used to get paid for pedantry, but now I wander round sadly shaking my fist at "Three items or less" signs in the supermarket.

I think I'd like to get paid for pedantry. I'm in the wrong job. How did you get into editing and proof-reading HobNob?

I did a distance learning course that covered proof reading and editing.

Do you think we could form a crack team of freelance pedants?

We'd come into your office like a horde of locusts and strip it of any useless apostrophes, misusage and general redundant verbiage. You'd be a leaner, meaner clearer-speaking place afterwards...

Bit of this, bit of that. Most of it involves writing. I think you're born to be a pedant.

I work in publishing, but not editorial. To be honest, I wouldn't want the responsibility of being a proofreader or copy editor. Much more fun to point out other people's mistakes! I am a lazy pedant.

MollieO - I'd have to correct it! I sat on my hands for two hours before finally changing my LO's 'spelling practise' exercise book! The irony was too much for me to bear!

Clearly being pregnant has affected my ability to spell "virtual". Either that or my typing has goen toe potte.
