Achtung Baby! Heute is Holby-City-Tag - Dein Lieblings-Seife-Favorit! Nur noch Stunden jetzt...

Oh sorry, I'm in Ireland and I thought it was an English thing. Obviously not something you'd hear on the news though! More 'street English'. eeeeoooo. Felt silly even typing street Enlgish.

theNaughtiestGirlKeepsaSecret · 23/09/2008 15:44

I say Fye-Nance. Not FinnANCE.

I say REEsurch, not Risurch.

But then, I'm not English so I need my own thread

German or 'churman' as I call it sounds as complicated as ever. Glad I did Spanish.

sixth; wennzday (although my Dad says Wed'nzday); library; February (drives me nuts with that song by the Killers where they sing Febewary); shedule; Fyenance but fiNANcial; reSEARCH; San-dwich...

MrsJohnCusack · 24/09/2008 01:53

I have NO IDEA
someone will have to trick me into saying it so I can do so without thinking about it

I prob say sixth though, as I speak Proper innit

ghosty · 24/09/2008 02:02

I say sixth, wed-nesday, library, reSEARCH, Sand-wich, FebRuary.
I got locked up in my bedroom with dry bread and water for dinner when I was growing up if I didn't.
My mother still thinks that all regional accents (except Scottish, Welsh and Irish) are put on on purpose and that everyone can speak 'properly' if they put their minds to it ...

Ham Bag

swedishmum · 02/10/2008 00:10

Pronunciation and spelling are very closely linked. I see examples of it at work daily. This is my excuse for making dd3 (reception) pronounce everything correctly. Sikth is a pet hate of mine - poor dh is sick of hearing me moan about the BBC sports guy.

mabanana · 02/10/2008 00:47

It's Lybree, Wensday, Feburee, and I think after saying out loud loads of times, sixs - but a thick, lispy sort of 's' sound at the end.
