From the sublime to the ridiculous.

Oh God. Iorek's post has just alerted me to the fact that I say 'What's not to like?'

Aitch · 01/07/2008 20:19

i have just posted that someone in the news should 'suck it up'. i thought of this thread. [unrepentant]

Aitch · 01/07/2008 20:31

and lolol i've just been told that i'm 'so DM'.

might i add any mention of the Daily Mail as a blanket insult to the cliches thread?

IorekByrnison · 01/07/2008 20:40

Don't fall on your sword, onebat. I quite like "what's not to like". It's funny. "It's all good" is all bad though.

Aitch · 01/07/2008 20:44

i do think that if you can imagine Chandler Bing saying it...

MrsThierryHenry · 01/07/2008 21:04

Aitch - hear hear re your Daily Mail blanket! (huuuck-chew! )

I hate 'what's the skinny on...' - weird, nonsensical US business speak

I also loathe 'what part of "no" do you not understand?'. Trying to be cleverly sarcastic and failing on both counts. Makes me shudder.

Pavlovthecat · 01/07/2008 21:15

'It's a wrap' - my boss says it at the end of a meeting. GRRR!

IorekByrnison · 01/07/2008 21:22

We say "what part of 'no' don't you understand?" to our cat quite a lot. Wouldn't say it to a human though.

MrsThierryHenry · 01/07/2008 21:34

Iorek - !!

OP posts:
Remotew · 01/07/2008 21:36

'At the end of the day'.

IoreksCat · 01/07/2008 21:36

(apologies for absence of apostrophe in my name - MN's fault)

Iorek - what part of 'meow' don't you understand?!

  • can cats wink?
AngelDoll · 01/07/2008 21:40

Argh argh argh all stop it!! I can't bear any more!

'What's the E.T.A?' (for a blardy REPORT???!)

'Low hanging fruit'

'Joined up thinking' (ew stop it, it hurts now)

MrsThierryHenry · 01/07/2008 21:44

Low hanging fruit???!! What does that mean when it's at home? (another hated phrase)

OP posts:
Aitch · 01/07/2008 21:45

they may at a king, i believe. lol at the cat.

PInkyminkyohnooo · 01/07/2008 21:57

Radio 4 news bulletins always have something 'paving the way' and it drives me to distraction.

Spidermama · 01/07/2008 22:02

You do the math(s).

Between a rock and a hard place.

Spidermama · 01/07/2008 22:02

A sticky wicket.

pootleflump · 01/07/2008 22:08

"As soon as you stop trying... that's when it'll happen!"

Remotew · 01/07/2008 22:10

Even worse "As soon as you stop looking, you will meet someone". Maybe I should go over to loan parents section on this one.

IorekByrnison · 01/07/2008 22:13

Roffle Iorek's cat. You're getting pretty handy with those typing paws. Glad to see you've picked up my pedantry too.

Actually, we knew that's what he was thinking. He is most expressive. Just look at his face.

MrsThierryHenry · 01/07/2008 22:16

Now there's a wily cat if ever I've seen one!

I LOVE this thread all the more having caught up with it tonight. It's good to know others are afflicted with the levels of intolerance that I suffer.

These cliches are serious irritants which affect one's quality of life. Some days, if I'm feeling a bit vulnerable anyway, I daren't turn on the radio.

Remotew · 01/07/2008 22:37

Lol Spider, Certainly don't listen to local commercial radio on one of those days.

MrsThierryHenry · 01/07/2008 23:36

I know couples who call each other 'dear' and even 'pet'! AAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
