For all those with an appreciation for Chester draws, please bare with me.

Today, I have read the grand flourish to the end of a sentence… and wallah!

It's also Ball-Ball season on my local FB page!

I assume this comes from the accent (estuary?) where L-sounds at the end of words almost disappear.

niadainud · 29/11/2025 14:42

I see "blindsighted" has joined "stepped foot" as the latest nonsensical Mumsnet eggcorn.

U0KHun · 29/11/2025 14:48

I arkst'd instead of asked
Westminister instead of Westminster

These are my petty twosome

Twinkletwinkly · 29/11/2025 15:00

Chatting to my neighbour the other day and I was mesmerised listening to her variations on the simple word text.

She had tried several times to contact a local plumber. She sent him several texteses and had to wait 2 days before he texteded her back with a reply.

tobee · 29/11/2025 16:19

I always wonder if it's some Del Boy reference or similar

notatinydancer · 29/11/2025 16:51

I’ve seen Col de Sack on fb today.

BreakfastOfWaffles · 29/11/2025 17:19

Reminds me of a Facebook listing I saw from some one selling a "shabby chick shaylon". I had to look at the photos before I realised it was a shabby chic chaise longue!

Rainallnight · 29/11/2025 17:24

I’m in a couple of SEND Facebook groups and there are plenty of references to rest bite care.

I feel better now that’s off my chest.

I've posted this one on previous pedant threads, but its worth repeating as it amuses me and is just so fucking mad Grin

Moore's O'Liam.

It was on the local FB page because someone had vandalised it.

Is that the same as Barak O'Bama

ahem “Bear with me”. You don’t really want everyone to get naked with you do you?

Well it would certainly spice up Xmas 🤷‍♀️

A friend once misheard “shabby chic” as “shagging sheep”. Oh we did laugh 😆

ginasevern · 29/11/2025 17:47

I guess lots of people have always thought these were the correct expressions/spellings but there's a perceived proliferation of it now because of the internet. What I mean is, their vocabulary would only have been read by a limited few but now thousands of people can see it. There is also a cumulative effect when some influencer or whatever posts "blindsighted" (for example) and those who don't know assume it's correct.

AutumnClouds · 29/11/2025 17:47

Pretty sure people say this on purpose, as part of our national bit of badly pronounced gcse french. I know someone bilingual in french who does it. It’s just a lighthearted not-quite-joke.

Ohpleeeease · 29/11/2025 17:48

It’s my pet noir OP.

Sadly not. It’s an American aberration. They really think it’s Wallah.

Yes, I speak French to a high standard and have been known to do the same (Del Boy style, for a joke). But I don't really think that's what we're talking about on FB market place.

Haha, not seen that one before! I am now imagining the person saying it with a sleek black cat on their lap...

I cannot take the credit, it’s Victoria Wood’s genius.
