Apostrophes!!!

Today I've seen someone talking about people named Evans as in Chris, and the name has been written Evan's, several times. Why would you think a name requires an apostrophe?

Some people think any word that ends with an S must have an apostrophe. Don’t think they read much x

Yes that's odd, I saw a sign that said they fixed exhaust's, brake's etc but clutches was correct! How bizarre.

I've seen signs which had lists where some plurals were correct and others weren't.

@WinterKitchen , it is probably because the plural of clutch involves an extra syllable while the plural of the others do not.

If they sold bags and boxes, the sign would probably say 'We sell bag's and boxes'.

I used to know a woman called Gladys. Her daughter used to write all the family Christmas cards and she always wrote "Love from Glady's .........".

I saw a placard advertising food, your choice's were jacket potato's etc. With steak there's several option's for sauce's eg peppercorn, Diane etc.

Other apostophes that annoy me are the ones so often seen in well or ill. Is it autocorrect that does that?

I am with you there, I hate the wrong use of punctuation.

Not grammatically, but extra exclamations can indicate urgency and/or importance to the reader.

On a market stall in London once I saw the handwritten sign - Christma’s card’s and Xma’s wrapping.

My son worked every Sunday at a cafe attached to a stately home kind of place. An Italian restaurant used to hire it for weekend evenings and put apostrophes in every word ending in an ‘S’: vegetable’s, pizza’s etc
When my son pointed it out the owner said he’d been told but he thinks “the words look better with that mark.”

Some rubbish Trump-supporter stuff from the USA came up on my Facebook feed yesterday (presumably due to one of my dafter relations across the pond). It used the word American's several times.
