People tend to think bear is just the animal and bare is used everywhere else. I don't think it's that unreasonable.

Tbf I don't think on social media it really matters, it's about getting your message across. In formal writing it does matter, and when I receive a badly written report or document, or read a book which clearly needed an editor, I inwardly grown and hand half finished aforementioned book into a charity shop

@veritasverity , it matters regardless of it being social media. More and more communication happens in an informal setting, and using the wrong words or having poor spelling and grammar doesn't create a good impression.
There are MN posts that are barely comprehendible.

I agree that it matters less on here, but I would prefer not to see things like 'What heals would compliment this dress?' or similar.

"Oh I love the name Rueben/Elouise but its my DC's name so I am bias" makes me think that the poster isn't terribly bright should have chosen a different name.

I can't see how anyone would write good English in a formal setting and then type out something different on social media, unless caught out by a stubborn autocorrect.

The duck was invading capture. Myself and my husband couldn't catch it.
