I received this mailer today. Who on earth proof-read this? The grammar is poor and has actually irritated me!

I'm not planning to sell my house, but if I did, this tiny little detail would put me off using this company.

The spacing is off too.

greyhairnomore · 27/06/2023 09:37

Send it back in an envelope with a red spelling correction.

peachescariad · 27/06/2023 09:41

What is more concerning is some people will read it and won't see what's wrong

TroysMammy · 27/06/2023 09:42

I would contact them, it's up to them what they do with the information. them

I contacted Olay about an error on their website. They thanked me and amended it immediately. The email I received from them indicated someone was going to get a telling off.

Apart from spotting one spelling mistake, a comma which should be a full stop, and a casual use of commas generally, I’m not quite sure why this has attracted so much opprobrium! I’ve seen much worse through my door. Please tell me if I’m missing something.

Yes, you’re (hint right there ⬅️) missing lots. Read it again.

New beauty salon being opened. A sign writer was painting some of the treatments on the front window, including manicures, pedicures and facials. I pointed out there was only one “s” in “fascials” … the next time I walked past, it had been corrected. Job done

LaBefana · 27/06/2023 09:56

I once wrote to Bristol City Council about a cast-iron sign they had made, then painted white, with the letters painted black, which, among other things, told the reader (in the St James Barton 'Bear Pit') that the nearby public toilets were CLOSED ON SUNDAY'S. I suggested that to avoid visitors to Bristol thinking we were all illiterate, they could send someone with a little pot of white paint, and cover up the apostrophe. I was really surprised to get a nice letter back thanking me for my suggestion, which they had followed. The amended sign was there for years until all the faciliities in that place were removed.

The point for me would be that if they are too lazy to have their ad proof read for mistakes, then they are probably pretty lazy in general and therefore wouldn’t get my business.

Exactly this.

Yes, the first ‘your’ rather jumped out! I’ve re-read and spotted ‘a informal chat’ now. I think I’m losing my touch (such as it was)!

Walkingtheplank · 27/06/2023 10:23

At least they didn't suggest that readers 'contact ourselves'.

Limer · 27/06/2023 10:29

That's appalling! I had a similar flyer through the door, estate agent touting for business as it was a "sort after area".

bookworm44 · 27/06/2023 10:41

For everyone jumping on me - at least i am not a teacher!! I have no responsibility of bringing up the next generation to be literate.

I used to go to a dental surgery that had a notice which said, “Patient’s car park.” I asked if they had only one patient.

The sign remains.

LaBefana · 28/06/2023 11:00

I used to be tempted to tell colleagues who emailed me about a 'stationary order' that, yes, it hadn't moved since I last looked at it, but managed to resist.

Also my boss called the pedestal thing on castors with drawers by her desk her 'pedistool' (I do know that castors are called casters in America). Don't get me started on 'tamber units'. Also cutting paper with the 'giloteen'.

barbarahunter · 28/06/2023 11:02

I do like your worktops and sink, OP

barbarahunter · 28/06/2023 11:03

Ignore me, that was the picture on the flyer wasn't it 😬

WhisperingAutistic · 28/06/2023 11:05

An estate agent in my town keeps posting 'sort after' properties on Facebook...

This is my thinking too. A company that can't be professional can't be trusted.

Hadalifeonce · 28/06/2023 11:11

We stopped for lunch in an hotel a while ago, I pointed out that their sign had accommodation spelled incorrectly, I knew it wasn't any error by the reception staff, but they couldn't have cared less.

Bluevelvetsofa · 28/06/2023 14:51

I’ve just seen route cause.

JayWayney · 09/07/2023 15:28

I've noticed that a lot of the guff from estate agents on Right move is appalling. Grammar, spelling, would be high flown pretentiousness. Don't get me started on the video walk throughs from some of them,
