"all the mum's at the school gate are really clicky and never talk to meeee..." Argh. Just...no. It is ALWAYS in a whiny post too. Bothers me far beyond any rational response. I get ANGRY about this. I need to get a grip don't I? or someone lovely could reassure me that it isn't just me? What gets to you?

Cue and que in place of queue sends me over the edge. Do people not read any more?

wherethefuckisthefuckingtuna · 22/11/2016 08:02

When people write "on route" instead of "en route".

And "sneak peak" when it should be "sneak peek".

Trills · 22/11/2016 08:15

OH hello, it appears I already commented.

MidsummersNight · 22/11/2016 08:24

"We was going down the shops"

"We was just sitting watching TV"

"We was having an argument"

"We was" instead of "we were" gives me the absolute rage. It's so common and just horrid fucking English. STOP IT.

AsthmaAndAutism · 22/11/2016 08:25

Youse

YOUSE. As in the plural of 'you'. Oh god. This annoys me so much, 'Thanks for coming, hope youse had a great time' people spell it out like this too, it's not just verbal. Drives me batty.

Sadik · 22/11/2016 08:32

Not new - in Absolute Beginners, IIRC Flikker threatens the narrator with his 'click' - so evidently common usage in 50s London.

Youse is just regional, surely?

Roussette · 22/11/2016 08:48

This thread is my natural home... pet hates are...

should of instead of should have

your but should be you're makes my teeth itch

click instead of clique makes me laugh because it's ridiculous! I say it out loud in my head to make myself feel better as in "cleeek" not click!

Oh and Their instead of They're. Effect and not affect. Loose and Lose. "Can I lend your pen?" Arghhhh ... and breathe and breathe. Grin

VintagePerfumista · 22/11/2016 09:16

I think AIBU may be your spiritual home tbh.

last week's thread on all of this

On PC you're more likely to find discussions as to how language isn't a static entity and how, in some distant future, "should of" may well be accepted.

There are going to be a lot of itchy teeth around, that's for sure.

MyKingdomForBrie · 22/11/2016 09:42

My dh would love this, if ever I complain about him mangling words he tells me that language is constantly evolving and I'm just being a snob and getting left behind.. very irritating when he's defending his grammatical errors with said theory! I don't disagree with him in principle however.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/11/2016 09:48

OP - don't get angry with people who talk about 'clicks'. They're clearly not part of any clique with which you would wish to associate, so be grateful for the warning.Grin

And a nice example of Muphry's Law, without which a Pedants' corner thread is incomplete.

Clankboing · 22/11/2016 09:54

Lots of people say literally. Do you think that they are getting the word mixed up with 'actually' ... or 'virtually'?

AgentProvocateur · 22/11/2016 10:03

I bring you this beauty, recently spotted on a local facebook page...

It's CLIQUE not CLICK!
Clankboing · 22/11/2016 10:25

Dai jah voo sounds scarier than the real word.

Roussette · 22/11/2016 13:32

There are going to be a lot of itchy teeth around, that's for sure

I'll cope. Smile
