How do you pronounce the word praline, as in posh, nutty chocolate?

  1. Praw-leen
  2. Pray-line
  3. Prah-leen?

3 different people in our family say it 3 different ways- Who is right?!

Thank you Senecafalls. Definitely "prah lean," if it's a sugar and nuts patty from New Orleans. Or, New Orlins. Smile

In English I say prah leen.

But it's not the correct pronunciation in French. The French say pra leen.

DH says 'praw-line' and 'nugget' Hmm. Sadly I realised this when it was too late to back out.

Good point, TooMany. You eat prah-leans in New OR-lins, not New Or-LEANS. Smile

Lol! I'm glad we're not the only family who have a special way of saying certain things! MIL is responsible for praw-leen. We now all ask if she fancies a 'pauline' chocolate. Maybe we're just weird!!

Prah-leen and noo-gar. It's awkward sometimes talking to people who pronounce French in an English accent when I don't as it can sound like you're correcting them. But it would sound so weird saying nugget. There are French words we all pronounce in English too - like Paris!

Noo-gar but nugget if talking to my mum!

Cooroo when I told DH's Canadian cousin that I was going to a fete (pronounced fayte) he looked at me as if I was barking!

In the US, we say NOU-gut (on the very rare occasions anyone has need to pronounce it).
