"Me and ..."

I was always taught to form sentences "Sally and I went to the park" etc.

Two well educated colleagues continuously say "Me and Sally..."

It grates

I'm not alone am I?

This thread implies that I'm wrong to use "Sally and I..." in every situation. Interesting.

It would give me the rage. My kids still say "me and xxx' specifically to wind me up. And it does.

I corrected DC on this today and then wondered if I was wrong. I think I need to read the link. Mind you I also found out this week that it's ok to split infinitives more often than not.

Sally and I went to the park. Fine

Could you give Sally and I a lift? Not fine.

Redlocks28 · 01/05/2015 21:50

It is correct to say, 'Please pass me and Sally the chips!' though...

iklboo · 01/05/2015 21:50

I was taught to take the other person out of the sentence & see if it sounds right.

Bob & I like ice cream (I like ice cream is fine)

Me & Bob like ice cream (me like ice cream - not fine)

Ok that's really helpful. Colleague mainly says "me and Sally did this" so that is clearly wrong.

Thank you

It makes me feel faint.

And it's, "Pass the chips to Sally and me." The "me" or the "I" always go last.

I have a colleague who uses "myself" when she means "me." I have to lie down when I get home.

Stitchintime1 · 02/05/2015 19:41

And she says, "I was sat."
