Why has everyone started saying 'deteriate'? The word is 'deteriORate'. Yes I mean you, radio ad.

It's Newspeak Sad

PurplePidjin · 16/02/2012 19:49

While we're at it, why do I keep getting business emails (job hunting so from people 've never met) addressing me by first name and signed Kind Regards? It's Miss - or Ms if you're not sure - and Yours Sincerely.

The amount of badly spelled adverts appalls me, maybe I should get a job proof reading them Reed

ObviouslyOblivious · 16/02/2012 19:51

HugeFurryWishingStool · 17/02/2012 11:38

"women" is not a singular noun!
"I am a strong women" they say, then go on to talk about their 'wierd' 'neice'

QuietOhSoQuiet · 17/02/2012 11:46

Here here!

iklboo · 17/02/2012 18:52

Definitely acquired taste. It means you have to try something a few times before you decide if you really like it or not.

QuietOhSoQuiet · 17/02/2012 18:53

That's good iklboo, not that I am going to gloat about being right at all :o

iklboo · 17/02/2012 20:29

Wine. Now that's a required taste Grin

yellowraincoat · 17/02/2012 20:32

The one that makes me laugh is "he had his conviction squashed." Heard this on the news a ton of times.

maresedotes · 17/02/2012 20:40

'brang' as in 'she brang it to the party' - direct quote from my DD's friend's mum. DD used it a couple of days later and said "but friend's mum said it!" The woman said it twice to me and I just smiled politely but I wanted to correct her.

ObviouslyOblivious · 17/02/2012 20:46

Perhaps she brang it because someone requested it pacifically?

tb · 01/03/2012 17:30

Saying 'changed' instead of dressed/undressed
There's a rash of posters talking about seperating. Still, I suppose it's better than sepereting............

I had to beat a speedy retreat from a shop the other day when the woman at the till told me she was "literally" dead on her feet- ZOMBIE shopkeepers, aargh!

BelleDameSansMerci · 01/03/2012 21:36

What about "except" and "accept"? Really, it's not hard to get those right.

Shakey1500 · 01/03/2012 21:36

I regularly scan the classified advertisements in our local newspaper. Chester draws appear more than is believable.

As an aside, this made me chuckle last week-

For Sale- Calculator, almost all the buttons working. £1 Tel xxxx xxxxxx

I mean, who would buy it????
