Just saying.

Are you referring to some MNers using the spelling 'reign it in' or using 'reigns' for bolting toddlers?

If so, I agree; I made a similar comment on a thread not so long ago.

If not - I haven't got a clue what you're talking about Grin

It's always being used: How do I reign him in? It's a fecking horse metaphor, it's about reins.

There are two current thread titles, sometimes almost juxtaposed, about "reigning him in" and "hoards of travellers".

I just think people should envision Genghis Khan reining in his hordes, and then they'd have it.

Thanks, Dazzle. I'm glad we're on the same wavelength here. Smile

One's never quite sure what Chaos's are about sometimes. Wink

DownbytheRiverside · 26/10/2011 23:22

Theirs allways rain in the hoards to.

That was a painful sentence to type.

FruStefanLindman · 26/10/2011 23:30

That deserves a , DownbtR
Five words out of seven, as well Grin

DownbytheRiverside · 26/10/2011 23:35

I do teach primary...Grin

DazzleII · 26/10/2011 23:39

You can also imagine Genghis Khan reigning in his hoards.

But that is an altogether more passive picture. And not half as exciting.

Ponders · 27/10/2011 00:25

reigning in has taken over

It makes me

startail · 27/10/2011 00:41

Thanks my dyslexic brain knew that looked wrong, but could quite work out why.

DazzleII · 27/10/2011 03:10

I know, Ponders, you even see it in the papers. The Guardian, admittedly - but still.

OP posts:
DazzleII · 27/10/2011 10:55

Oh, must bump it now.

OP posts:
FruStefanLindman · 27/10/2011 19:45

May I add another one to this Dazzle (and help you with the bump)?

It's CroydOn (i.e. Croydon ) not CroydEn - as in the very large town on the south-west edge of Greater London - (just noticed this on another thread, but I've seen it a few times on MN previously). Grrrrrr

DazzleII · 27/10/2011 20:57

I'm only bumping when the Hoards are in Active Convos or the Reigning him in set. Trying for juxtaposition is too ambitious.

It IS important to rein in the hordes of Croydon, oh, yes.

DazzleII · 28/10/2011 22:13

Here, here, by the way, FruStefanLindman.

I do rather like this one in a current thread:

"People are talking about racial diversity in private schools, of course there is a well healed, ambitious group amongst all races."

Very pleasing, that one.

And they're talking about Croydon. But spelling it right.

OP posts:
DazzleII · 30/10/2011 15:58

Actually, looking down Active Convos, I'm sure at one point we've had "playing bored games" instead of "board games".

Almost poetic. And so apt.

OP posts:
nickelbabe · 01/11/2011 16:57

well healed?
were they broken badly before then?
Grin

I like the Genghis one too - definitely reigning in his hoards.

DazzleII · 01/11/2011 17:34

I think they were wounded by injustice, Nickelbabe. But now they are well healed.

OP posts:
GrimmaTheNome · 01/11/2011 17:53

I once (and only once) read a motoring article in the Guardian. It consistently referred to the 'breaks'. This is one to look forward to when the icy weather starts - there will be lots of hapless MNers having problems breaking their cars.

sospanfach · 01/11/2011 17:54

at least you don't work in a 'fast-paste' office like someone my sister knows....

DazzleII · 01/11/2011 18:30

Oh, I like fast-paste. Is that like swimming through custard?

I think you should give the Guardian a brake, Grimma.

OP posts:
sospanfach · 02/11/2011 08:54

presumably it's a one stop wallpaper shop, a fast-paste office. (Actually it's a serious legal premises, which is a little more alarming Confused)

DazzleII · 02/11/2011 10:26

I think they're papering over the cracks, there, Sospanfach. And they do it really well, because they're a fast-paste office.

OP posts:
FruStefanLindman · 02/11/2011 10:56

What about the people who are never phased by, say, a vicious looking dog barking at them?
