They are all dressing like Queens (DD saw a float at the Lord Mayors Procession)

They will be eating bacon bagels, sausages in rolls, fresh fruit platter, freshly squeezed orange juice, croissants, pain au chocolate

& I am completely at a loss wrt the cake

Link not working Katy.

& if I cover a plate in cling, then I can trim the chocolate while still warm

Google decorative chocolate shapes & look at images - it's the first picture

That'll do it! Lovely.

stealthsquiggle · 12/11/2009 21:13

Damn you, Mo, you've solved the problem already

I like your implementation of that starburst cake we talked about ages ago, BTW. I did DS's cake last weekend - it involved dry ice - fairy castle next, for which I must make the towers tomorrow or they will never dry.

Now I just need to find her present

Can you beleive a plain black tankini would be hard to find?

Right time, right place Stealth! I was here, where were you??

I can believe that Katy. Most tankinis are brightly coloured because they're for mucking about swimming, not like most black costumes, that are for the serious swimmer.

I struggled to find a nice bikini for DD in the summer, that didn't do up in a knot around the neck. She can't wear one of those under her wetsuit, because it rubs and is uncomfortable when she's got a tank on her back!

MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 21:30

Oh, and that starburst cake was rubbish!! I literally had about an hour to throw it together!

I've just put DD's latest birthday cake on profile. A vision of hearts and feathers!

stealthsquiggle · 12/11/2009 21:34

very posh.

I did a tiered cake in about an hour the morning after DS's party. It did look good, but we had to transport it before the icing had set and it sort of slid a bit

Katymac · 12/11/2009 21:40

If DD wants a black one she can have a black one - with shorts

Can you not see it against her skin? She looks fab in black

No feather for us - my Dad is dramatically allergic

BTW did you see the photos of DD in the competition?

here I hope?

I like the baking of birthday cakes, but am not so hot on the decorating - tends to be a case of buying something to plonk on top. My solution for a brunch party cake would be one of those plates of seaside rock made in the shape of an English breakfast.

JackBauer · 13/11/2009 08:11

That soudns fab Katy, very cool.

And your DD is always gorgeous and sooo cute in teh competitions, how did she get on? Am I right in thinking it was a blackpool one or something?

Katymac · 13/11/2009 08:33

That was Cambridge - Blackpool is the week after her Birthday - 28th

I am a very bad mummy & not going - but DH is & will (hopefully) be dancing with her (if he is well enough)

OP posts:
JackBauer · 14/11/2009 14:56

Fingers crossed that Dh is well enough to dance then.
Not bad mummy, woudl you make her more nervous by being there? I know I would!

Katymac · 14/11/2009 23:20

Well not exactly

But I'd find it difficult taking time off work plus I am always so tired at this time of year & I keep getting bugs - looking forward to a week off
