They are all dressing like Queens (DD saw a float at the Lord Mayors Procession)

They will be eating bacon bagels, sausages in rolls, fresh fruit platter, freshly squeezed orange juice, croissants, pain au chocolate

& I am completely at a loss wrt the cake

Okay, so needs to be classy and grown up but still fun?

Crown
Stakced with crown on top
Very cool cake
slightly funky but still cool in different colours

Katymac · 12/11/2009 19:20

Like the funky but I don't think she will - the stripes & circles has possibilities

She doesn't fancy a crown much (blasted child - I could manage that, well a simple version)

I did wonder why you were having trouble, a crown cake is the obvious solution!

What's her style? (emo etc, not got a clue what the others are called but you know what I mean)

MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 19:24

I've got the perfect and easiest bunch style cake for you! It will be on my profile in a matter of moments!

Katymac · 12/11/2009 19:29

She is still a little girl with very little 'style' good dress sense but not a 'style' as such

I'll have a look at your profile M'ML

OK. It's the table with cakes on. Just a simple vicky sandwich, with a reasonably thick piece of fonant icing draped across it.

Once I'd got it on, I made little dents around the bottom of the 'table cloth' to give the effect of lace.

The plate is actually made of icing, so all edible, but there's no reason why you can't use a nice clean, white plate. Run a line of royal icing all the way around the edge and decorate with jelly tots. Then pile high with whatever cakes you want.

JackBauer · 12/11/2009 19:32

Oh I like that, MML!

I am just a sucker for a stacked cake decorated 'differently' like this

(apologies, mine are 2 and 3, no clue what 12 yr olds are like)

Katymac · 12/11/2009 19:32

I could put the croissants/pain au chocolate on it

Hmm nice idea - not convinced but I'll chat to DD

She likes the plate idea

But I have to use the colours from here

So how am I doing that?

How about a chocolate coloured table cloth. (I'm pretty sure you can buy rollable chocolate icing) and then use Tooty Frooties for the edging. They're those colours.

JackBauer · 12/11/2009 19:54

When is the party?

Does she have any suggestions (beyond no crown, awkward child

Are they too old to decorate cakes? You could make some small cakes (sort of midway between cup and normal size) and let them decorate it? But then I suppose she needs a cake from you too....

What about a palace or throne? Or you could do a square cake and design a stamp with her face on? this place does photo icing.

MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 20:01

Of course, you could always do the fairy castle on my profile!

Katymac · 12/11/2009 20:01

Chocolate rollable icing - I like that idea

Can I buy pastel rollable icing too - preferably on-line?

It is 22nd so I have a while

I could ice the edge of the cake in yellow - with a chocolate table cloth then small circles in yellow/green/pink

Would I make a plate out of rollable icing (very thick icing over another plate & left to dry)?

JackBauer · 12/11/2009 20:06

Sorry, xposts!

You can buy black fondant icing in bulk from cake shops on ebay.

BikiniBottom · 12/11/2009 20:06

What about a Queen of Hearts Card shaped cake. Or a giant cupcake that is the size of a birthday cake with lots of frosting and a great big cherry or something on the top. I have seen these and they look so cool.

MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 20:07

I use a gellatin icing, which sets like concrete! A fondant one, would take quite a while to dry, but you could have a go. You can buy a packet of bog standard roll icing in the supermarket.

If you roll it out and put it on a dinner plate, like you would a pie lid, then you'll get the shape of the plate, rather than a flat disk, iyswim. Pop some cling film over the plate first and dusting of corn flour, in case it sticks and it's easier to move it off and turn it over for drying.

You can buy every colour icing going, online I expect. I use a local cake decorating shop, which stocks loads, but I buy white and use the coloured pastes to get the colour I want.

JackBauer · 12/11/2009 20:09

this place is good

Katymac · 12/11/2009 20:15

Maureen I am too lazy for that

Ebay here I come I guess

I'll only need a bit of 2 colours, lots of brown lots of 1 colour & a medium amount of another

Actually I think the plate should be brown, with a yellow table cloth

So lots of Yellow & a medium amount of brown with a bit of pink & green

Does that work?

OP posts:
Katymac · 12/11/2009 20:19

Is this what I need?

How much?

Oh I am thick

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 20:28

Yep. And 1kg is plenty to make a table cloth.

Katymac · 12/11/2009 20:32

WHat about making the plate out of actual chocolate?
& the table cloth out of marzipan?

then I only need a tiny bit of pink/green?

Where should I put the pink/green? Stripes on the cake board? or somewhere else?

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 20:40

Good idea. Now you're thinking!

Yes, you could icing the cake board with a colour, then put stripes of the other colours on top.

Katymac · 12/11/2009 20:40

Ok we have cake board
We have (chocolate) cake
We have a marzipan tablecloth with chocolate swirls round the bottom
We have a solid chocolate plate
We have croissants & pain au chocolate on top

How does that look?

OP posts:
MaureenMLove · 12/11/2009 20:43

Sounds rather fab, actually! Love the idea of incorporating the croissants, with the cake. Especially as they are chocolate ones. Great idea.

Katymac · 12/11/2009 20:43

I can buy little chocolate swirls that I can decorate the tablecloth & cake board with
