What would you think if your child was invited to an activity party but there was no party food, just juice and biscuits?

The activity is laser shooting in camoflage gear in local woods with look out posts and hidey holes. It's quite expensive and the package only includes juice and biccies.

It's 2 hours so am thinking I would do it 2-4pm with juice, biccies and birthday cake at the end as son't really want to shell out fo food also.

What do you reckon?

sounds reasonable at that time of day

NB it is fun

MrsDoylesMole · 19/01/2009 21:28

Maybe you could take some crisps as well?

wheresthehamster · 19/01/2009 21:29

I can't imagine anyone would expect food at that time anyway. If you wanted to, instead of a party bag (if you do them), you could have a party box to take home with cake, bag of crisps ,drink that sort of thing.

My child went to an activity party recently with no food. It was a bit surprising to be honest because usually there is a meal. I'd feed them but then that's me. I'm a bit of a caterer.

thisisyesterday · 19/01/2009 21:31

sounds fine to me! a friend and I are half planning a soft play party for our 4 yr olds and we're going to do a similar time, 2-4pm so that we can avoid providing food as well!

i wouldn't expect food for that time. they'll have had lunch before they go.

DrNortherner · 19/01/2009 21:31

I'd have to make it clear on invite that there is no food wouldn't I?

Drn is a tight git so please feed you child after the party. Thank you

Crisps are a good idea though.

Sounds fine to me. When my ds's went to parties there was always sooo much waste when the children didn't eat most of it.

Plenty biccies then they have tea at home.

waspriceyp · 19/01/2009 21:33

I think a bit of a sausage roll or sandwich is in order at the end of it tbh. Starts after lunch pretty good, finishes after much running round and activity just before tea, and loads of ratty kids then have to get in cars and go home? Probably not your problem, but I know my DC and I think biscuits and juice won't cut it!

nowwearefour · 19/01/2009 21:33

yes i think it would be helpful to have it on the invite so parents can bring a packed tea or something to avoid winging in car on way home. in that sort of situation hard to see how you could provide more food than that anyway. sounds like a great party idea.

mamalovesmojitos · 19/01/2009 21:35

i wouldn't mind in the least, i never have any expectations going to a party and always make sure dd is fed. they'll hardly starve! it's only two hours.

DrNortherner · 19/01/2009 21:35

Hmm, only problem is there is no where to do any food. Just a hut, but it's a bit grot.

Don't want to traipse 15 muddy 7 year old boys back to my house!

Just wanted to do something a bit different, but might have to rethink.

I gave ds the choice between lots of friends and no food or a couple of friends and food and he chose the couple of friends option.

I would make it clear on the invites. I usually use days ds has been to a party to make something for tea that dh and I like and he doesn't as he won't be hungry and will probably want just half a sandwich and some fruit.

Sausage roll idea is good.

Lilyloo · 19/01/2009 21:37

I wouldn't be bothered if you didn't provide food but would like to know so i could give them a good luch beforehand.
I tend to not give much lunch if party invite is mid afternoon.

WingsTHEangel · 19/01/2009 21:37

What age are they I presume not that young for laser quest.

Is there a chippy near by give them £1 to get a bag of chips on the way home

Wheelybug · 19/01/2009 21:38

Fine I think at that time. DD has been to a couple where they have been at such times that you wouldn't expect a meal and didn't get one. Maybe make it clear just in case but otherwise would think it sounds good.

LynetteScavo · 19/01/2009 21:38

Sound fine to me. Seven year olds would expct more than juice and a biscuit between 2&4 anyway, would they.

ChasingSquirrels · 19/01/2009 21:40

I thought the whole point of a 2-4 party is that you don't have to feed them. I certainly wouldn't expect my child to be fed at a party with those hours.

thirtysomething · 19/01/2009 21:41

could you just provide a freezer bag or paper bag with a bag of crisps, frube type dessert, few grapes etc to supplement what they are giving out? and a note on invite to the effect of: please note that due to the outdoor nature of the activity and lack of catering possibilities, limited snacks will be provided. I'd be very happy with that on an invite and just give a normal size lunch and expect to provide a beans-on toast type tea at 6ish to top up.

It sounds like a fab party BTW!

pollywobbledoodle · 19/01/2009 21:42

as one tight git to another, put a positive spin on it on the invites.....ie what will be provided in terms of food and activities.

i wouldn't think it was strange but would like to know beforehand

waspriceyp · 19/01/2009 21:42

Really sorry OP, my DS (who would love that) is 3.7 so not really relevant. I guess a 7 year old could last till tea time and his parents would know from the invite that it was a snack only thing. I would still bring extra, extra biscuits though if I was you.

WingsTHEangel · 19/01/2009 21:43

I think at 7 the last thing on their mind would be food, they'll be having to much fun.
Plenty of juice will be just the job.

DrNortherner · 19/01/2009 21:43

OK, I am starting to think this could work. I would need to type out an instruction sheet to all delegates so parents know to dress kids in old clothes, comfy shoes and that the kids will come back muddy and wearing camouflage make up. I could also state that at 4pm a light snack of juice, birthday cake and fruit will be serveed.

DS really wants to do this, and I don't think it would be as much fun with less kids.

DrNortherner · 19/01/2009 21:45

Did I say delegates?! Lol. Still in work mode.....

OOh Thirtysomething good idea, take some "will not spoil if not eaten snacks" then for the ones who are flagging you can dish out cheapy cartons./squash/juice/water, crisps or biscuits or bananas or grapes? Bag of satsumas?

DrNortherner · 19/01/2009 21:45

thirtysomething I like your idea of wording for invites. Thanks
