bumped into neighbours and they were all dressed in beautiful clothes
got chatting and they told me they are celebrating a ten day festival just now and would we like to come for tea etc etc
what festival is it? was too embarrassed to ask!

Eid? End of Ramadan, if they're muslim (I think)

Blandmum · 01/10/2008 17:38

Eid was yesterday, wasn't it? But it goes on for a few days.

Traditional to have new clothes (posh jobs) for Eid, I think

cthea · 01/10/2008 17:38

nailpolish · 01/10/2008 17:38

no, ramadan is a period of fasting.

Eid is the end of it

themildmannneredjanitor · 01/10/2008 17:43

SunshineSmith · 01/10/2008 17:43

Eid is celebrated today, a nice celebration at the end of Ramadan.

SaintRiven · 01/10/2008 17:45

we celebrated Eid yesterday. I know some mosques are doing stuff today.

nailpolish · 01/10/2008 17:45

This Eid, as far as I know, is a three day festival, rather than ten days. I had three pupils in my Yr 10 group today!

Themasterandmargaritas · 01/10/2008 17:48

It was Eid last night/today, celebrating the end of Ramadan - a month of fasting for muslims. We have a public holiday today to celebrate

Diwali is the festival of lights and is coming up soon I believe.

nailpolish · 01/10/2008 17:50

tbh i have a feeling they are not muslim

OP posts:
nailpolish · 01/10/2008 17:55

i think i will jsut ask her

Themasterandmargaritas · 01/10/2008 18:00

If you don't think they are muslims, then it's possible that they are Jains, which I believe is derived from Hinduism. In which case I wouldn't take any food as they have a very strict philosophy about which foods they can eat. I'm sure if you ask her she will be delighted to tell you all about it. Have fun

ruddynorah · 01/10/2008 18:02

if they are from india they are more likely to be hindu or sikh. though not impossible that they could be muslim. usually muslims are from pakistan. or when you say they are indian do you think they might actually be pakistani?

do you know what their surname is? or their first names? that can help identify them.

thing is though, it's a celebration so just join in and have fun!
