Just that really...

Website says that they do but to speak to local brach manager, but calling up the 2 we ha e in our town, it seems as if they do not do parties....

Pizza express party is £27 a head ...I know they let's kids create their own pizza but it's pretty steep for 6 Yr old....anyone got any experience with restaurant parties for this age group?

I would prefer a soft play but DS is saying he doesn't want that. Even though they serve pizza chips and nuggets too...he'd really like a restaurant

I don’t think they do…

all the rage in the 1980’s - I loved a McDonalds party!

paddingtoncoffee · 30/11/2024 18:53

The problem with a restaurant, is it's all sit down. If he really wants McDonald's - what about a Deliveroo to home with an activity of some sort before hand. Nothing fancy, but a bit more than just food I guess

paddingtoncoffee · 30/11/2024 18:54

I went to (and loved ) McDonald's parties, but I think the highlight was Ronald McDonald coming out to talk to the kids, and I guess they don't do that anymore ....

DancefloorAcrobatics · 30/11/2024 18:56

How many friends are we talking?
Just go to one of the pubs with a softplay...
Let him have a lunch/ tea in the adult bit and then go and playafterwards.

Needanewname42 · 30/11/2024 18:56

How did McDonald's parties ever work?
Surely it wasn't just Happy Meal hat and then what?
Did they play games or anything?
A restaurant isn't somewhere you want kids running around.

GrumpyCactus · 30/11/2024 18:56

I suspect most restaurants won't host parties even if the website says some host them because it's simply not financially effective for them.

Blocking off a chunk of the restaurant for a group of kids who could be there for a while doesn't make financial sense.

I agree with a PP I would order happy meals and do the party at home.

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 30/11/2024 18:57

I had a 'party pack' thing pop up on the mcdonalds app the other day - it had party hats and some games I think.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 30/11/2024 18:58

Get some pizza bases and do it at home with some party games.

perfect for 6 year olds

Yes they played games with them and most Maccies back then had playrooms in the restaurant, which were little rooms with soft play inside and big glass windows.

Also the birthday child could go behind the counter and use the McFlurry machine!

I goggled and found harvester do parties! £9.99 per child.

I recall attending multiple McDonald birthday parties where I grew up abroad in the 1980's. Sometimes they included a tour of the kitchen and always an ice cream cake. There was a separate room upstairs where we'd have the party. This particular McDonalds had a play area outside. 1 'ride' was a circular, spinning chair and at least 1 child would always be sick after being on it! 😬

JC03745 · 30/11/2024 19:18

That should be googled, not goggled!

Stretchedresources · 30/11/2024 19:24

Our McDonald's used to have a small soft play and party area back in the 80's and 90's.

Squidgemoon · 30/11/2024 19:26

I had a McDonald’s party for my 6th birthday! It was amazing. The McDonald’s had an upstairs section with little tables with toadstools for seats. Ronald McDonald came out and did something to entertain for a bit. I don’t think they’ve done them for years, sadly.

Latenightreader · 30/11/2024 19:29

The Norwich McDs had a train you could sit in to eat your meal, I don't remember soft play. I never liked burgers so was really happy when chicken nuggets started. I went to a few Wimpy parties and we all had to hide under the benches when Mr Wimpy came in. It was really dusty under there!

GiveMeVodkaPlease · 30/11/2024 19:29

We went to one about 6 months ago. Our local one has a little soft play inside so is quite popular. As I understand it you don't actually book though, you just rock up with all your stuff and order happy meals for all the kids.

HiCandles · 30/11/2024 19:30

I loved going to McD parties. Upstairs back when it was the old style white chairs and red and yellow decor. Ronald 'hosted' the games then there was food. Don't think I've heard of one for years OP.
What about your local leisure centre? Ours does a similar kind of active session with games, ball play etc, then cheap food.

LadyGabriella · 30/11/2024 19:33

McDonald’s parties were so fun in the 90s. I think they sell a party pack online for like £6. Maybe you could get that and then just go to McDonald’s anyway with the kids at a table/diy party.

Goldbar · 30/11/2024 19:48

I would not book a 6yo party in a restaurant if you have more than around 5-6 children - they egg each other on, get over-excited and generally have trouble sitting down for a long time just waiting for their pizzas to come. It can be a bit boring for them. If you have a small group, I'd just make pizzas at home and have some party games.

Beck2017 · 30/11/2024 20:00

They don't , not like 1999 Wednesday afternoon with cake an balloons. Staffing, space and happy ish teens are a thing of the pas

kiana2015 · 30/11/2024 20:06

They don't explicitly do parties but you can call and inform them you will be coming along with however many children - ideally have their orders so the staff aren't bombarded with a huge order last minute and ask them to close off some seating area for you. You can bring your own balloons etc as they won't host the party. But they won't say no to business. At least my one allows this anyway

Pineapplewaves · 30/11/2024 20:18

If he wants a restaurant is there a Brewers Fayre with a soft play near you? they do parties and you can request a table in the main restaurant to eat.

Or what about hiring a hall with a bouncy castle and sending someone out to collect the required number of Happy Meals.

butterflysandrobins · 30/11/2024 20:36

It says online that you can still book a McDonald's party. But I think it means that you can just book seats. I don't think they have Ronald McDonald come out anymore

cookiebee · 30/11/2024 20:37

Attended a lot of parties at the local Wimpy in south east London when I was a kid, have a photo of one such friends party, there’s a full ashtray in view lol. Remember going to a McDonalds one as well, it was in a designated room, but McDonalds in the 80s and 90s was a colourful place decor wise, now it’s all greens and neutrals aimed at a more sophisticated market, probably not much fun for a party, but I guess they don’t do them for the reason that they target adults more now.

Meltedchocolateteapot · 30/11/2024 20:38

My son literally just went to a McDonalds party today! I hadn’t heard of them in years. There’s a separate room in our local McDonalds to accommodate parties. We’re in Ireland

BCBird · 30/11/2024 20:40

Mcdonalds = restaurant 😂
