Just that really...

Website says that they do but to speak to local brach manager, but calling up the 2 we ha e in our town, it seems as if they do not do parties....

Pizza express party is £27 a head ...I know they let's kids create their own pizza but it's pretty steep for 6 Yr old....anyone got any experience with restaurant parties for this age group?

I would prefer a soft play but DS is saying he doesn't want that. Even though they serve pizza chips and nuggets too...he'd really like a restaurant

They haven't done them since the noughties. AFAIK. My 2 DD had around 5 of them. (EACH.) Invited 20-25 children, and they all loved it. Cost about 3 quid each at the time! (Around 1998 to 2004-ish (Probably like 5 or 6 quid in today's money.)

I'd do something at home. Have domino's delivered? 6year olds will get v bored at a meal out with nothing else to do.

I recall attending multiple McDonald birthday parties where I grew up abroad in the 1980's. Sometimes they included a tour of the kitchen and always an ice cream cake. There was a separate room upstairs where we'd have the party. This particular McDonalds had a play area outside. 1 'ride' was a circular, spinning chair and at least 1 child would always be sick after being on it! 😬

Lol well that ride looks epic

They don't explicitly do parties but you can call and inform them you will be coming along with however many children - ideally have their orders so the staff aren't bombarded with a huge order last minute and ask them to close off some seating area for you. You can bring your own balloons etc as they won't host the party. But they won't say no to business. At least my one allows this anyway

Yes I think this is about right because I have seen parties taking place...

The staff member i spoke to initially said yes, then went off to ask about pricing and came back with a no, so I'm thinking people are just doing diy parties

Thanks for all your responses....yes we could do it at home. But I really am just too lazy for that.

I want all the mess and chaos somewhere that isn't my home.

Totally understand that a restaurant party is a bit boring, but that's what ds6 wants. Ds8 IS going to have a soft play party and ds6 is adamant he wants none of it and doesn't want to invite his friends to that....not sure why.

(Also it's not a birthday party, it's and end of term party before summer hols, so I don't really mind just feeding them, giving them cake and sending them off with a goody bag)

Honestly it would make life much easier if I could just do a joint one at soft play but he seems to have his heart set on sitting in a restaurant.

Poster who said Harvester or Local pub....I will defo look into that, thanks

If it's end of term you could do McDonald's picnic in a local park. Or hire a hall with bouncy castle & McDonald's

steponacrackbreakyourmothersback · 30/11/2024 22:07

I had a wimpy party when I was about 8. My parents didn't do fast food so I'd never had a burger before. I did not like I!

suburburban · 30/11/2024 22:10

We did these in the 90s to early 00s but the local one isn't open anymore

SmalllChange · 30/11/2024 22:21

BCBird · 30/11/2024 20:40

Mcdonalds = restaurant 😂

It's the world's largest fast food restaurant chain?

Greentreesandbushes · 30/11/2024 22:23

See if your local Prezzo has a private room? Ours does.no charge to book. So 22 x about £7 or £8 kids menu = winning

This makes me so sad! None of that would be allowed today, because of health and safety I suppose.

Our one had a huge boat with tables in it and a big busy painting on the wall of all the characters on their adventures.

SmalllChange · 30/11/2024 22:32

I remember the staff used to hide ketchup dips in the ball pond, and the kids would get a prize for finding them!

Happy days 🤣

Titsywoo · 30/11/2024 22:41

Most McDonalds used to have a designated party area in the 80s/90s with child sized tables etc but those went when they redesigned it many years ago.

I never went to one that I remember but definitely went to a few Wimpy parties - there was a Wimpy character that used to come out to say hi - looked like a big comma with a hat!

DianaRiggsCatsuit · 30/11/2024 23:00

@ImTheOnlyUpsyOne
Is there a Wacky Warehouse near you? My DC loved having parties there.

mumda · 30/11/2024 23:07

I attended many. But I was the party host. Absolutely loved it. Even the group of 30 eleven year old boys didn't me off.
The ice cream cakes were popular but people often bought their own cake.

JC03745 · 30/11/2024 23:20

Well, it was 40yrs ago now!

I think what a 6 year old might want in 5-6 months could well change.

Id drop it for now and suggest something that's more child friendly nearer the time!

Needanewname42 · 30/11/2024 18:56

How did McDonald's parties ever work?
Surely it wasn't just Happy Meal hat and then what?
Did they play games or anything?
A restaurant isn't somewhere you want kids running around.

There was usually a separate section slightly ‘walled off’ and had the the mushroom chairs around the tables. You got McDonald’s party bags and Ronald McDonald came out to see you sometimes. Very popular in the 80s! I loved them.

HongKongFinish · 01/12/2024 07:36

Echoing pp above with a child friendly pub type venue. Hungry Horse/ Wacky Warehouse if there's one near you.
