We are going to a wedding on Saturday & haven't bought a present yet There is no list as they say they don't need anything & will just be glad to see us there. I obviously want to get them something but have no idea what.

Any ideas, please ?

if they say they don't want anything don't get them anything.

if you MUST get them something, get them a little piggy bank. i think it's a nice symbolic whatsit of their life ahead (that they'll probably be skint after their wedding!)

McDreamy · 16/03/2008 17:40

How much do you want to spend?

Dottydot · 16/03/2008 17:40

voucher? We said we didn't want anything but it was still nice to get a few John Lewis vouchers..!

ivykaty44 · 16/03/2008 17:42

A rose for the garden?

BrothelSprouts · 16/03/2008 17:43

Voucher for a plant from crocus.com or similar.

BrothelSprouts · 16/03/2008 17:44

Toilet roll holder in the form of a doll wearing a knitted crinoline skirt.

I bet they haven't already got one of those!

EllieG · 16/03/2008 17:47

Don't get them anything. I am getting married this year, is 2nd wedding and I ain't just setting up home. I really don't want people to buy me things, and will not take umbrage if they don't. I'm sure they mean it when they say just you coming to celebrate is enough.
Something little and symbolic like rose or piggy bank is sweet though if you really want to.

McDreamy · 16/03/2008 17:49

Lol brothel!!! how about something personal like a love spoon or a picture like here You wouldn't be able to take it with you on Saturday though.

squeaver · 16/03/2008 17:51

Wine? That's what my best friend asked for because her and her dh didn't need anything. Or a nice bottle of Champagne wrapped really nicely?

EllieG · 16/03/2008 17:52

Ooo champers good. Hope someone gets me that

SlartyBartFast · 16/03/2008 17:52

how about a tree?
or a gift voucher

SlartyBartFast · 16/03/2008 17:53

or a teasmade?

alfielooloo · 16/03/2008 18:00

Thanks everyone. I had thought of John Lewis vouchers, but there isn't one anywhere near where they live A rose for the garden is a nice idea, so is the love spoon, they are Welsh so would be a nice pressie to give. Also champagne is a good one, maybe with two nice champagne flutes to go with it. I am going shopping tomorrow, last chance I will get before the wedding, can't believe I've left it so late to get something

Any more ideas ?

What about getting them a present but for someone else in a third work country?(toilet, goat, send a kid some school books etc.)
Much better use of money fo someone that really needs it.

Or maybe just donate to a charity that you think they may like in their name. Even if its only £10 it still £10 better spent, than buying useless decorative tat that will clutter someones house up.

donnie · 16/03/2008 18:04

another vote for champagne - people always like receiving it.

LittleMissBliss · 16/03/2008 18:05

Coming from someone that often gets decorative tat as presents that ends up in the loft or car boot sale. I'd really like a gift for someone else on my wedding and i'd remeber it.

denbury · 16/03/2008 18:10

i like littlemissbliss idea. or join them to something like national trust

alfielooloo · 16/03/2008 18:11

I like the idea of the gift going to someone who needs it more than they do, I think my friends would too, thanks LittleMissBliss.
It's between that & the champers I think.

How about the Mr and Mrs board game?

McDreamy · 16/03/2008 18:14

here

alfielooloo · 16/03/2008 18:15

Is there such a thing McDreamy?

I agree about "decorative tat" and would deffo try to avoid that - they could end up with 10 love spoons!

A rose or other plant is a lovely idea.
If they are going on honeymoon, you could buy them a book - either about the place, or a novel set in the place.

LittleMissBliss · 16/03/2008 18:26

oxfam or maybe [[http://www.globalgiving.com/gifts/index.html glogal giving] I think you can also get gift token presents from Oxfam shops aswell.

LittleMissBliss · 16/03/2008 18:27

global giving sorry wriggling monster on my lap!

BroccoliSpears · 16/03/2008 18:27

Plant or booze. Definitely.

(When dp and I get married we will say that we don't want any presents but secretly I'll be hoping people do get us stuff )
