We are going to a wedding on Saturday & haven't bought a present yet There is no list as they say they don't need anything & will just be glad to see us there. I obviously want to get them something but have no idea what.

Any ideas, please ?

d'oh just lost a long post - but it basically said - currency for wherever they're going on honeymoon - they can treat themselves to special meal/trip/whatever

Do you know any details of where they are going on honeymoon? Or could you find out? How about emailing the hotel and seeing if they will put some champagne in the room for them?

QuintessentialShadows · 16/03/2008 18:32

I actually dont like receiving champagne. But give me a decent Burgundy, or a Rioja, I am a happy bunny. Or a mixed case of 6 good wines, if money is no object.

If only one bottle, I would be very glad to also receive a nice designer winestop, or bottle opener.

I once got a silver ice cream scoop as a gift, and loved it!

DH and I didnt want wedding presents, hated the idea of a list for two people not exactly starting a new life in a new home etc etc but realised people often do want to get something, so we asked people to buy their favourite book and write a message on the inside, which we thought would be much more personal and affordable. We now have a fantastic, interesting (in terms of peoples psyches!) mini library which we treasure. A lovely book is always good.... but I would also back the champagne suggestion .

just re-read my op and ment world not work but i think you got that! Right i'm off to play with ds.

an old favourite... we have had one of these made for a few different friends' wedding gifts and they seem to be well received.

Caz10 · 16/03/2008 18:41

oh yes to surprises in room etc - we got lovely flowers in one hotel room, and another friend had secretly upgraded our booking on a night out so we got a better table, free bubbly etc, i was in tears at the time!

Oh I like those chopping boards - personal AND useful! And that book idea is brilliant, Louandben.

alfielooloo · 16/03/2008 21:37

Oh I love the chopping boards, also the currency gift idea & the gift in their room idea. Unfortunarely I don't know any of the honeymoon details as the groom has booked it & I don't have any way of getting hold of him. Lots of lovely ideas, have to make my mind up soon! Thanks everyone, very much appreciated.

How about a donation to a charity they support in their name.

CoteDAzur · 16/03/2008 21:39

A day at a spa!

fishie · 16/03/2008 21:45

do they mean they really don't need anything (have dosh) or don't want to have a wedding list (been together ages)? i ask this because we got married recently after 15 years together and since we didn't have a big do said no presents. but we were very pleased to have some small things from friends and john lewis vouchers never go amiss.

liahgen · 16/03/2008 21:51

I would donate to a charity close to their hearts.

alfielooloo · 16/03/2008 22:41

They have been together for years & so have everything they need for their house. fishie, what small things did you like from your friends?

You could get something off my SILS's list, theres quite a lot left on it yet.

pinkbubble · 16/03/2008 22:53

Didn't see this on your list so sorry if someones already suggested it!

What about a time capsule, someone told me you can get them from the internet, it has a lock on it and they can fill it and they have to wait a certain amount of years before they open it - say silver wedding anniversary. I thought about it for DH but did not have enough time to make it, so I am thinking about doing it for our wedding anniversary!
